  1. Yeah, that wasn't the point. The point was what do we gain by these additions?
  2. Two Canadians added to PR today. Both from Winnipeg Rifles. Doesn't hurt but doesn't help exactly.
  3. Sadly I think we'll need to win both games against the Riders. No more do overs. Time to go on a winning streak and win both the Lions and Riders season series.
  4. Riders missing 2 starting DL and their back ups. That does not bode well for them.
  5. The global LB 1st name is Lucky and he's on the roster not Whitehead
  6. We get to draft 2 global players and they make the roster by default. Zero competition. Fayad must have really been bad if we have to activate him as a replacement. I guess we'll see how this works this week. Regardless we better be bringing in a couple of players for the PR. Garbutt might be available next week but Haba might not be available for quite some time? At best we're thin, thin, thin at the position.
  7. Can't disagree for the most part. I'd be looking for some new bodies to replace several of them soon. That said, I'm not sure what happens or when with 3 receivers added to the PR recently. You'd think that puts a couple of the AR at risk.
  8. We're already 2 players over on our PR so there was no room for another player there at the moment. It could be that Garbutt is coming off the 6 game IR early. I never heard what his injury was or anything since. After adding Alston, Case and now Whitehead to the PR, I wonder what that might mean for Mitchell, Wilson and Johnson? Something has to give.
  9. It's going to be a tough game on both sides of the ball. An entirely new OL, all rookie receivers and 2 rookie QB's. I only see about 8 players that were with the team in any capacity in 2023. A few might make the roster but they may only get a couple of series early to avoid chance of injuries. I think most of the decisions have been made. A few players are still fighting for PR spots and even those are largely locked in. Half the players on the roster will be released and 12 added back to PR ( rough numbers ). So about 30 - 35 will not be with the team in any capacity after this game.
  10. Injuries and when they occur determine which teams do well. Just look at what happened to the Bombers roster going into the Grey Cup. You can't predict that.
  11. Looks like about 10 players released since the 1st pre season game so far. We're down to about 91 players left. Could still see a few more dropped by the time we have our last practice this week. Depends on how many walking wounded we have that can't play on Friday.
  12. I wondered the same thing. Not one rookie that has played his way off the roster? It's a very curious loophole in roster management.
  13. Keep the Canadian starters the same but add 2 more DI's to replace 2 Canadian back ups.
  14. I didn't expect Rourke back in the CFL in 2024. However, this creates an opportunity / opening that didn't exist yesterday. The $300K advance payout to Kelly is an SMS issue and I have no idea if Rourke is remotely interested at the moment. Lots of questions including will Kelly be banned from playing at a later date and his CFL career over? Will the league negate his contract and relieve the Argos of the SMS hit from the advance?
  15. I watched a series called " Glitch " a couple of years ago. Very interesting premise and well acted. It's about 7 people that come back from the dead that died long ago or recently. They return to life in good health regardless of when or how they died. Imagine coming back to life 60 years after you died ( as an example ) and had to deal with how the world has changed. Just as an FYI, I didn't like 3 Body Problem.
  16. A few draft choices may go back for their last year in college. A few will start the season on PR as development players. It wouldn't surprise me to see a couple of the 2024 draft choices actually make the AR. We've lost a few Canadians that spent most of 2023 on the AR, so there are some open spots. It also wouldn't surprise me to see a few Canadian depth players not make the roster in any form. So we'll see how our selections go. Previously I suggested that we might try and trade up since we have 10 selections this year. As an example, would we trade our # 8 & # 17 or # 20 for a top 5 draft pick? Just spit balling.
  17. Washington had a relatively short CFL career. He was reported to be the fastest player in the CFL at the time. Mack Herron was outstanding until being tossed due to drug issues. Dave Raimey was a favourite of mine. Bombers had a number of terrific RB's in the past. It was common for RB's to also be great returners as well back when rosters were 32 players etc. For me Lewis was my all time favourite and best player. He played so many different roles for the team. Exciting to watch.
  18. I have a game worn 1982, home jersey # 5 Dieter Brock that I got for Christmas that year as a present.
  19. It's been reported that the Bombers have made contact with his agent. He could be a good player to sign but it always depends on how he fits SMS and how he works with his team mates and coaches. I've never heard anything bad about him but the fact the team has made contact is a good sign.
  20. Ken Ploen was the Bomber QB when I started watching the CFL and continue watching now. He was a great 2 way player and exciting to watch. I met him once in the stands at BC Place when he was sitting before the game and was in town to do some game broadcasting. Still have his autograph on that program cover. RIP. Condolences to his family, friends and CFL fans.
  21. A transaction on CFL.CA shows Richmond transferred to " retired"??? I wasn't expecting that and the timing is a bit odd?
  22. Interesting. I wonder how that was done, perhaps a larger signing bonus for tax purposes. He's the 3rd or 4th QB that has restructured this off season.
  23. I also wondered how he'd end up being classified. The real question is will he beat out Castillo and / or is Castillo even in the plan? In theory the new player would come in on an ELC which would save some SMS. However it has impacts on the ratio both positive and negative. We'd gain back the DI spot that Castillo filled. We'd lose the Global spot currently used by Hansen. I've lost track whether a team can roster 3 Globals. I believe that can be done but it also means you have to eliminate one import to offset that change. So you have an net impact of zero to the ratio across the board unless we find / use a Canadian DE as a back up ( Bennett ). Is that a good thing or a bad thing, IDK. Castillo is a potential free agent and there is no guarantee he returns whether we want him or not. Not sure Hansen is returning either. If Bede reaches free agency, I'd think it would be worth a discussion with him or his agent in the " tampering period ". Is his SMS hit higher or lower than Castillo. Noting that Bede can also punt which might be a consideration. Didn't like the import kicker and global punter concept used in 2023 from both a ratio and performance point of view. Maybe we look at Liegghio as a punter if he reaches free agency. Like everything else, ratio, and SMS are big questions.
  24. I don't know that Ford will be a starter immediately if he returns in 2024. He has potential but is a long way from being pencilled in to start IMO.
  25. Rosery should be back in TC this year. Whether he is capable of backing up or pushes ahead of Augustine is a TBD. Whether we have Oliveria or Augustine back on the roster is the bigger question.
