Would anyone do that to their wife even if it was a work?

Matt Nichols, Elite quarterback?
I think LaPo holds him back with the dinking & dunking throws underneath that just do not extend drives.

Yeah, I had to reach far back in the memory banks for that....

Matt Nichols, Elite quarterback?
I'm shamelessly showing my age here but what the hey. For all you long time, oldtimer Blue Bomber fans out there, do you remember this guy?? When we talk about players who went elsewhere & had success, he may have been the best Blue Bomber toi have ever done that. The biggest disappointment I had ever as a fan seeing a Blue Bomber player leave was in 1969 when we traded running back Dave "The Knife" Raimey to the Argos for their backup qb, Wally Gabler. I was heartbroken to see him leave. I remember being pretty choked when I first heard the news as he was the only superstar the Bombers had at the time. Gabler had been a success having got the Argos to the playoffs in 1968 but had lost his starting job to Tom Wilkinson during the 69 Argos training camp. We were desperate for a quarterback as John Schneider & Luther Selbo weren't the answer after struggling thru a horrendous 3-12-1 season in 1968. To make matters worse, the Bombers were humiliated by the Eskimos in their 1969 home opener to the Eskimos 33-0 back in an era when 33 points would seem like 50 or even 60 today. So, I understand why they traded Raimey. He was in his prime as a running back, a CFL all star as well as a Schenley Award winner. He was one of the last holdovers from the 1965 Blue Bomber team that made it to the Grey Cup that year. Raimey was my favourite player & still remains that to this day. The way he could run, stop on a dime, shift & make players miss was breathtaking & earned him the nickname "The Knife". After he went to the Argos he played extremely well as their tailback before suffering a season ending knee injury. That necessitated himchanging to corner on defense where he became a CFL Eastern Conference all star & probably extended his career. But how many players can be an all star running back then switch to corner & become an all star doing that? He was a great player. Anyway sorry for changing the discussion & back to the original thread subject. Just had to get that in.

MBB can be a pretty mean spirited site unfortunately sometimes with the arguments & name calling that take place but it can also be a place for intelligent discussion which is a lot of fun. Like today. When that happens, MBB can be a truly great place to talk Canadian football!!

One of the best discussions on this thread I've had in a long time. Thanks wbbfan.

We just don't throw to him enough. He needs to become more involved in the passing game & that is Nichols responsibility. At the same time, he has to be open to throw to. So, don't know if it's Nichols fault he isn't getting the ball to him or he's just not getting open. I think the answer lies somewhere in the middle.

Is Now The Time???
Kelowna isn't big enough. They have the 2,500 seat Apple Bowl where the Okanagan Sun play & last Saturday I was at the game there as my son is a coach with the Sun & it wasn't sold out. However, well over 2,000 fans were in attendance vs Kamloops. Junior football is king there & the community embraces it. Just a great atmosphere for a game. The CFL would never work there.

I still think we gave upon Gurley too early & he never got a chance to show what he was about when he was a Blue Bomber. I know the RedBlacks cut him but he was pretty sour after his experiences with the Argos & here. That may have been a part of it.

AC had intelligence going for him as well as being the crafty veteran that he was. if you're a Ti cat fan, it must've been hard to watch him kick your team's ass continually for over a decade after the fans there literally drove him out of town thinking he was finished.

Esks don't even miss Bowman. I don't know if he even gets back into the lineup when he's healthy. They could release him, save money under the cap & keep going like it was nothing. Would you take out someone like Hazelton, Williams or Zylstra (when both healthy)to put Bowman in? I wouldn't.

Smart, smart qb. Not the greatest athletically but he had a super quick release & man was he accurate with the mid range passes. Trestman designed a system where his quick release thrived. You can see it in Toronto with Ray. Trouble is, the Argos defense isn't in the same class as the one Marc had in Montreal.

Third. He was injured. Had a knee injury. I think he was number three at the time with the Stamps before he went to the Riders.

I think Mike Reilly gets a lot of undue credit as a truly elite CFL qb. He's a warrior, no question but how many times have we seen him throw a football either into a crowd or deep & his receivers make the impossible circus catch? every freaking game. Does that make him elite or does he have elite receivers? His receivers make Reilly look a lot better than he is as a qb, I think. That being said, he can put the Eskimos on his back & carry them. So, elite?? Yeah, I'll give him that.

Except Hank won twice but agreed.

Nah, he can't hang with the likes of Parker, Flutie, Ploen, Jackson, Moon, Wilkinson & other multi GC champions. He can hang with the guys you mention.

If hank was the Bomber qb & you had all those great teams racking up anywhere from 11 to 14 wins every year as well as the odds on favourite to be CFL GC champions yearly but had to endure all the chokes he had as a Stampeder I think you'd feel differently. When he left the Stamps a lot of fans would have happily volunteered to drive him to the YYC International Airport. His legacy in Calgary isn't winning the 1 championships but how many championships he didn't win.

Hank had two great playoff runs. In 2008 & last season. Other than that, he threw for a lot of yards but choked a whole lot of times (almost every season) before & in between. To me, that's not elite.

Never considered Burris an elite qb. Not with all the choke jobs he did in the playoffs.

As an asst coach you walk into those situations as the players are already there to coach. Most times. As a head coach, you are always responsible for the personnel you put on the field. You're the Captain. In AZ's case, the GM & Arians work hand in hand to draft players & Arians hasn't done much to improve the qb situation behind Palmer. Not saying he isn't right as he is. I just find it funny he says what Arians says yet he as well as the Cardinals organization can't find anyone to potentially unseat Palmer & he is a QB Whisperer.

Bruce Arians Another interesting thing he said: To Arians, a quarterback’s brain is the hardest part to evaluate. It’s a take-it-or-leave-it scenario, Arians said. Quarterbacks either have the smarts or they don’t. “Being able to decipher the information: What’s my protection? Am I hot? Do I have a sight adjustment weak side? What’s the coverage? Who do I throw to in this coverage? That all happens in 1.5 seconds. If you can’t process that information, you probably can’t play.” Arians has Carson Palmer as his starter who is 38 years old. He never drafted Palmer, the Bengals did. Arians has been HC for AZ a number of years now & certainly must have had opportunities to draft a qb that would someday take over from the aging veteran. Yet, who have the Cardinals chosen? No one as far as I can tell. That Linley guy in Ottawa played for Arians & even got onto the field when Palmer was injured but really did nothing in his time in Arizona. So, with all due respect to Arians, who is supposed to be a qb whisperer, why haven't the Cardinals drafted a qb that he could have developed during that time? Why hasn't Arians got the heir apparent ready for when Palmer retires? Whether it was 2014 or 2017, if Carson Palmer goes down, the Cardinals are hooped. So, he can talk all he wants. He makes valid points but I don't see anyone he has ready to go.
