  1. Finally, we have the first pre-season game! LFG Both games are on CFL+, no regular TSN this year. Position battles to watch; DB, (22)Burrell, and (37)Texada lead this race through camp so far. (41) Williams isn't far behind. It will also be a big pre-season for (26)Woodbey and (0) Allen, who showed strong flashes last year but are fighting an uphill battle for AR spots. Bonus, the Canadians are having a tough battle as well (7)Stuart, (29)Ball, (16)Kelly are all fighting for a chance to play. Kelly needs to sustain some high-level play, as Ball has been a strong overachiever, and Stuart has tremendous attributes. (36)Javier is a sleeper pick as well. He spent time on the Riders' PR, played pre-season in the NFL, and had a knack for big plays in college to go with great size. (13)Addison, a former WR convert who immediately produced at DB, has incredible size and is another big-play college guy to watch. DL, (90)Dixon, and (54)Jenkins are front-runners at DE, (35)Bailey, and (43)Gatkuoth have high hopes to provide us meaningful reps from the depth chart. 95(Hooper) is a depth-sleeper as well. While (91)Pace is the new DT to watch. Of course, the OL will be a great watch, with mostly names we are all familiar with. Wallace's step forward in camp has been huge; this could be his coming-out party. And Eli now gets the chance to be C 1, while everyone gets the chance to finally be free of Kola. (62)Viebert, and(64)Ellsbury are lesser known guys to watch. I like a lot of what Viebert brings, and with a step forward this year could make a tough decision. Ellsbury is our no. 1 option at C if Eli doesn't work out. Lber, we see a ton of returning guys and more CFL bodies than we could possibly carry. (39)Smith and (34)Shay are the ones we all hope have a big game and manage to move up the depth chart. Rb/TE will be interesting to watch. (73) Daniels could be put in for blocking immediately, which could come at the expense of the 3rd rb. (25)MCI has flashed a significant step forward as a ball carrier in camp, on top of that huge play late last year. While (22)Peterson showed us a whole lot in relief of Brady last year. (35)Rocker, the token import RB of the year and winner of best name in TC, would only be fitting if he became the TC MVP. WR, it's an ugly group today. No reason to mince words. (86) Clericius moving to the slot should be a good watch. They seem high on (82)Cobb this year in camp, after stapling his butt to the bench most of last year. (83)Nield will need to translate what he flashed last year in a big way for us. (17) Singer has had some plays in camp. Corcoran, Desrosiers, Hurford, Jack, and (89)feel good story Tachinski are all going to play significant reps. Hopefully its not like a rerun of Baywatch when they are out on routes. (44)Keegan, the punter's rival this year, has been quiet after coming to camp late. (36)Lidster, Sergios intern has as well. (79)Harrison is a former JET KR of the year winner and will see some KR work. (87)Davis, a very tall, slim-built converted QB from the arena leagues, will likely see some KR work today. (17)Singer, a WR to watch, has also gotten reps on teams this camp, though he doesn't have as much experience doing it as the rest. (35)Rocker may possibly do it this pre-season as well, as he was kind of a do-it-all back in college.

Honestly have never seen Wilson enter a game (regular or pre-season) and look like anything but a raw rookie. He did well on short yardage, couple big runs. His preseason games have all been a series of being indecisive in the pocket, check downs and sacks. Low floor with not much ceiling. Was pretty surprised he was brought back for a third camp but still on rookie deal.

Lots of references by her to how Taylor "looks the part", which....I think I know where that is going. Nowhere good, anyways. Honestly, given how this team has a history of being bafflingly loyal to players that were already here, I take this as a good sign that we may actually have something in Elgersma.

The way you talk about players is so weird, especially for a guy who has been fairly open about how they don’t think their son got a fair shot during their collegiate career. You don’t think these men exhibit character or leadership? Why? Because they appear to have made a personal choice based on how they want to run their life? I don’t understand why you choose to continually project your wants and desires as a fan of a sports franchise onto these guys who are literally just quitting a job. That’s all it is for them. This doesn’t have to be “they don’t have the character to persevere through a rough patch”, this literally could (and likely is) as simple as “they don’t wanna get paid a low salary to be far away from their families when they could earn equivalent or better back home” (PS not too torn up Wilson left, I think he was option number 4 at this point anyways and I like that it forces the team’s hand to NOT go with the established player)

Well a broke clock is right twice a day LOL Every couple of years we gotta have one of these family members. But atleast 3/4 of the time over the past 20 years its been Lapos... Wilson missed the biggest part of TC, the games. He took away his chance. We've seen guys be just about written off then have a great PS and change their fortunes. TE did it with the packers, and Browns big steps forward came in game as much as any thing.

One guy leaving that's not weird... two guys leaving early. I can't remember ever having 2 qbs quit before even getting a chance in a pre season game. Are we recruiting bad character players? Are the guys being treated like ****? Do we just have bad luck? Condell pissing people off? It would be nice to have a reporter speak with the guys and get their side on why they left.

No, I don't. Getting cut is one thing. But walking away from your teammates? How is that leadership or character at the position that requires the most of both? To me, it's the ultimate in selfishness. Things get tough & you quit? Wilson probably felt that he didn't get a fair shake & maybe he didn't. Well then, the only one who can change that perception of Wilson is Wilson himself. Work harder. Study harder. Be the most prepared. Leave everything on the table. No stone unturned. Be the smartest qb in meetings. If he still gets cut ast least then he can say he gave it his all & it just wasn't meant to be. If it's not a mental thing then it's physical. From all the stories I read here of fans watching Wilson practice he didn't do that. His passing was missing the mark. For a third year pro, he should be stepping up & not taking a step back. In Thorne's situation, he probably was overwhelmed & decided to get out. I can imagine players like Brock, Dunigan, Clements, etc all felt that at some point but put their head down & powered thru it. Okay, Thorne's not the first rookie to quit. It happens. If he came back & O'Shea agreed to take him back then I'd be okay with that. Being a rookie he deserves a second chance if he wants it in the future. I can say this about my son Tyler since you brought him up. He never quit any team that he played for. He went thru 3 head coaches, 3 OC's, 3 playbooks, three different sets of terminology & 3 QB Coaches in the three seasons he played at SFU. Some very talented players transferred out. They couldn't recruit during the 3 years he played at SFU because they'd take 3-4 months to hire an new HC so the team couldn't commit to players. And beside, who would sign with SFU when they didn't know who the head coach was going to be? So, recruitment was absolutely dead. This just made the team worse every season he was there. Tyler could have went into the transfer portal every year but each time he said no. He felt he owed it to his "brothers" to stay & not run out on them. So he didn't leave. All his loyalty did was to continue playing football for the worst NCAA program anywhere. His final season under Head Coach Kelly Bates was the worst. They didn't win a game. Bates never played 4 down football. He was never a head coach before. Bates was so far in over his head he was 200 feet underwater & sinking fast yet his huge ego was the problem. He thought he knew all the answers to none of the questions & coached like it. He treated Tyler like ****. Took away his captaincy. Made him the third string qb. All because Tyler came into his office after he was hired to talk about some of the grievances the players had with all the changes every year. The players hated Bates because he treated most of the veterans he never recruited like dirt. Dude went 0-39 as a head coach before the AD put him out of his misery but the damege was done. The players had long stopped playing for him. The football program was cooked. The administration's one goal was to kill the football program & the hiring of Bates sure did it. They hired a couple of head coaches after Bates but only won 2 or 3 more football games after that. All of BC's best football players went to UBC instead. The football team was discontinued. Some of these guys at the pro level think they're so hard done by really aren't.

lol so Terry quit when he saw the depth chart? Good riddance then. Terry couldn’t hit a 15 yard pass. TE was hitting dudes 30 yards away. Now TE might struggle early but I have no doubt after watching him something is there and he’s a better QB than Wilson. Strongest arm in camp by far. Effortless. Speed flex made me dislike TE a bit but when you see the guy in person you go, yeah he’s got something there. 6 foot 5 and an arm and a half, I could see why he waited a bit to come up. Great interviews also.

I was in favor of dumping Wilson early in the offseason. I don't think he showed a shred of progress at any point in time. From what I saw, Elgersma was head and shoulders better, and Wilson doesn't do anything better than Elgersma. I kind of expected Bryce and TE to pass Wilson. I also didn't think Wilson would want to sit on the PR. Its really hard to take a downgrade at his career point. That said, a downgrade is better then an end point.

Wilson maybe not seeing progress for himself in working up the depth chart but also the game is the chance to win a job. Could be something personal too.

We are talking about the 4th and 5th QB on the depth chart who are (or were I guess) current making less than you could be making on EI right? It's nice to have a romantic view of a team and comradery but at the end of the day it's a business. No one really knows what's being said inside the locker room. You hope that guys are being accurately appraised of their situation. I don't think you can begrudge these guys from seeing the writing on the wall and deciding to go home.

I find it extremely strange that two QBs are walking away. Extremely unusual. Even if Wilson could see the writing on the wall, he should at least keep grinding in case someone gets hurt or something else happens. Don't cut yourself, make them cut you. He still could have won the #3 job and had a nice football salary for another year. Very, very weird.

It's not terribly hard to see why either guy left from a football stand point. As a P4 QB, it's possible that Thorne made more money than Collaros last year and he was likely going to be on the PR. It's possible that Elgersma is going to be QB2, and Wilson would be going on his 3rd straight year of QB3 if he were to beat out Perkins. Yeah you are playing professional football, but at what point do you pull the plug? He wouldn't be the first person to quit after a few years of not getting Second-team reps, and he won't be the last I'm sure.
