No player worth anything is ever going to not want to play. Coaches needed to sit him down.

I’m less irritated at Grant not being re-signed than I am at the fact they didn’t give Chris Smith another shot, guy looked fast and explosive.

I think we're giving the personnel side a little too much credit of late. Who have we brought in the past couple years that was a big miss? All the guys we cut fade into the mist. The talent level of the past couple camps has been pretty poor. Can we not bring anyone in who is a threat to the QB off the snap? Even watching the guys this year in the most unstructured format of preseason there's no one in camp who can fire off and cause problems. The only guys we found are 300 pounds. Where's the guy who is a threat when he has the ball? We do really good at the draft and we've been doing pretty good at identifying guys off other teams of late. The US side is severely lacking basically since 2021. Our depth has been garbage.

Leake as our returner/wr/rb would be a great add.

Why do I feel like the L's are going to keep being a joke after reading this? Sideshow Ed is back in town and I love his pitch to free agents - come on down to Edmonton, it's nice here but if we don't like you... well there's 8 other teams for you to play for. 😂 https://3downnation.com/2024/11/21/ed-hervey-vows-to-fix-laughing-stock-edmonton-elks-threatens-dissenters/

Funny comment from Farhan about Edmonton not asking about Rick Campbell... since he was fired, I'm pretty sure they don't have to ask permission to talk to him.

i wish we would have used that DA spot elsewhere....if we can let him punt then possibly we can use the Global sot on a guy who can be used in defensive rotation,
  12. 4 points
give him all 3 jobs....he can punt more than adequately....Use that Global spot on Punter guy with a defensive piece

I don’t think he’s a legend, but he’s on his way. He’s a damned good coach. Top tier currently for sure.
  15. 4 points
He’s not on a hot seat tho. 15 people (I’m being generous) on the internet repeating things does not equate to a dude who has taken his team to the cup 5 straight years being on a hot seat or seat of any kind really except the one he parks his ass on at home or the office or car of wherever else sitting is involved. 5 straight cups. I’d like some answers for sure but he’s not on a hot seat. 25 he might be but right now he’s not. 2025 could be a huge celebration or huge disaster
  16. 3 points
You don't understand at all. I'm not talking about return average, we're talking about the punt teams. Every team in the league on average gained between 37-40 net yards of field position on a punt. Whether that punt went 80 yards or 38 yards before it was touched by the other team/bounced out of bounds isn't really relevant. Net is punt distance - return. They don't include penalties in the CFL league stats for special teams. You know what net income is? Same concept.
  17. 3 points
I’ll give him a little grace. 11, 50 yard field goals, 2 from 60 plus, he had a bad night with the chipped footballs and was pretty much our only source of points when we offense was struggling in the first half of the season.
  18. 3 points
I like Sergio but hope we didn't break the bank. Under 80% for a kicker is not acceptable in 2024.

Leake here at a 125k price would be invaluable...fills multiple roles (Returner...rb....slot receiver) is just hitting his prime and prob still has upside over what he has already shown....One DA spot on roster filling multiple positions allowing you to get best bag for buck and in effect deepens the rest of roster with ability for more versatility and much more positional coverage if rostered correctly

or maybe he uses his personnel to it's best potential to the team...and success.....we have a damn good dept too.....but we dont use the people brought in to it's best....thats the key
  21. 3 points
Very well could be. In this case, I wouldn’t mind paying him 125k or a bit more if we actually use him as a change of pace back, rotational wr/package guy, obviously depth at rb and wr and of course kr.
  22. 3 points
Again though, planning….which OL did you want to spend on? It’s nice to say that but you need the player available to sign. Hardrick is beyond cooked. Gray retired. There was no impactful free agent the past couple years. Look at Sask…they’ve signed them all. I’d say this season really proved that Collaros needs a certain type of receiver to fit the offense he runs. And for some reason nearly all the guys we brought in this year were not that body type. We needed a returner too but we had like 20 rookie receivers and like 3 of them were 6’2 or more. I’d go all in on receivers if you want to win. If you can’t pass for first downs in this league you can’t win a game. OL is important too but there’s a lot less of them around. Bombers likely need to replace 3 this year.
  23. 3 points
He certainly is not on the hot seat. The seat could warm up with a rough start next year but he’s gonna get lots of leash. Bucks seat is pretty hot imo.
  24. 3 points
Jake Thomas wouldn't take the heat he does if they didn't deploy him like he was 2001 era Doug brown.

  26. 2 points
Yup. Also insulates us moving on from JA for mci. So it doesn’t even end up being that expensive.
  27. 2 points
That’s opposite of every thing that’s come out from then till now with respect to him wanting to move on. And again, we saved maybe 15% of a rookie base contract in moving on from grant. That money had zero impact on the cap hit from any of the big guys we resigned. Augustine made a good chunk more than grant last year. Feltmate at worst made almost what grant did. they hard balled grant twice before in free agency. Which they haven’t really done with any one else. I suspect he just wasn’t a mafia guy. His disappearing act in the off season and unlicensed agent may have put Walters off. The selection process to join the old boys club with mos is an odd one. I don’t think any one else will ever understand it, unless you come with service history.

nobody should be safe from criticism and scrutiny....as well as accountability...I can see maybe after 2022....possibly after 2023....not now.....just for the fact it's basically same issues killing us...how long do you put up with that? I sure with anyone of you who work....you continually mess up....with the same mistakes/issues/oversights...would you keep your job.....i highly doubt it

MOS is not now, nor will he be, on any sort of hot seat this offseason. I am sure some frank conversations will be had between the trinity this offseason about what they can all do better and what changes need to take place to make that happen. None of those changes will be MOS, nor will his name even come up.
  31. 2 points
Probably, but the mafia seem to have no issues ignoring the out side complaints. I think you still bring in a big crop of kids to push and compete with grant. I mean he didn’t make much more than vet min. The rookie min is 70k, iirc the vet min is 85k. And the average starter salary is well over 100. So we might’ve saved 15k for half the year then between 5k and none on lucky the other half. It’s understandable to go young and for a healthy guy, but financially that’s a bad gamble. At that point I think we should’ve gone after atleast a decent league vet. A guy like leake would be good this year. 26, good size, very good returner, very good rb and pass catcher. He could do a lot of the sweep stuff we used to do with Demski.
  32. 2 points
It’s been downhill since 2021. 2022 we get Schoen but lose Lawler and Adams. No real threat on outside. 2023 get Lawler back but him and Schoen trade being out, Schoen is out for playoffs. This year we lose Bailey and don’t really replace him. Lawler and Schoen both dress for game 1 and that’s it. No threat from the slot, real low on guys the QB trusts. Wolitarsky out most of the year. The more we’ve relied (or had to rely) on Demski to be our best guy out of the slot the more our O has struggled and we’ve lost.

I've seen a number of people comment about how letting Janarion Grant go was a huge mistake. It's easy to say that in hindsight now, but with the injuries he had suffered and basically being out for half of the season last year (and possibly the year before as well), the team made the decision that it was time to move on from him, just like they did with Jackson Jeffcoat. At the time that the decision was made, it made sense to go that way, so griping about it now is just sour grapes. The fact that they weren't able to find a decent replacement is a totally different issue.

I cannot accept that the Bomber played that poorly in the Cup game because they played so well against the Greenies- that ought to have gotten absolutely pumped against the Argos.
  41. 2 points
If the Bombers clear out the deadwood (over O'Shea's deceased form), there ought to be enough money to upgrade a lot of other positions and keep vital players. I am of the firm opinion that Collaros is not worth the money he is being paid and he is trending is downward, so moving him is definitely an option, maybe even necessity. Moreover, Brady's comments are indicative of the malaise in the team that other players are feeling. That he spoke so directly means he is very unhappy and the Bombers would be insane to ignore that.

With the exception of a couple of games where Randolph was starting at guard, they were starting 6 Canadians on Offense (3 OL, 2 Rec, 1 RB) Ford in the secondary, Kramdi at LB That's 8 Canadians without even using the nationalized American rule Thomas and Schmeckel could easily have been used as rotational pieces only, with an American being Lawson's primary replacement I'd never claim to be an expert, but that approach would sure make sense to me
  45. 2 points
If Jake was a rotational DT for 15 snaps, I'd say little. When he starts and plays reps like he is Prime Doug Brown, I say lots.

as a paying fan...who pays his salry...support the team.....why dont you have a right to have a question asked?...Not asking for them to disclose x and o's and finer details...but why 3 yrs in a row play injured guys....why have a PR that doesnt have adequate injury coverage...why play inferior players just because they been here longer....why play excessive Canadians when you have better Imports.....thats not outrageous by any means...justify it....and not with his canned response "they are here cause they can help us win".....I bet if fans start to stay away...Miller won't be too pleased about it...And I hope he is asking those questions
