Walter’s was the special teams coach and had just moved into assistant GM. Questionable how much influence he had on the prior regime. He was interim GM in 2013. Hired O’Shea that off season when he had the interim tag removed and he and O’Shea have been together since. It takes all people executing at a high level to have the success the Bombers have had in the last 7 years.

Since we have a Ford V Ford battle, TSN needs to give us Duane Ford and not Suitor.
  3. There has been plenty written about the culture that was developed here, which has led to players wanting to sign in Winnipeg - Players taking less, players encouraging their buddies to come here, etc. That kind of stuff has value. To say that nothing changes if he's fired, is just false.

Getting a lot of bodies back at the right time, Elks genuinely worry me, a split here is kinda what Im expecting.
  5. Were there not tons of stories about how he constantly disagreed with the draft picks the team was making?

Broke my heart when HBO dumped boxing. So many fun nights with the boys watching Friday Night Fights and Boxing After Dark.

Key pieces were added early on, probably overpays that paid off in the long run - Stanley Bryant comes to mind.

Mulumba? Pence? What about everyone’s favorite … Jade Etienne?

I remember when Butchko requested permission from the board to fire Mack and instead was also let go himself. Wade taking on the President role turned our franchise around. And if I recall correctly, one of the big factors in keeping Walters as GM was that there wasn't a lot of time to prepare for the Ottawa expansion draft and so his familiarity with the roster was key.
  12. Here's a good article from when Walters took over in 2013 as it regards to the culture of the team. https://www.sportsnet.ca/football/cfl/kyle-walters-named-acting-general-manager-of-winnipeg-blue-bombers-replacing-joe-mack/

And bring Chevy over from the Jets organization to add balance.
  14. Miller and Walters laid out the blue print fir what they wanted...Oshea carried it out...he didn't mastermind it..he was a guy entrusted to carry out the master plan with culture... Yeah...that was some bad lazy assumption journalism

Mace is suffering from Devonne Claybrooks Syndrome. Claybrook was rated the best Defensive Coordinator in the league because he had an All Star team of defensive talent around him with the Stamps. He struggled coaching average players as Lions Head Coach. Funny how after he was fired in BC, absolutely no one signed him as their D Coordinator. Just how bad was it inside that locker room at BC Place with him in charge?
  16. 3 points
Yeah, there’s really no need to aimlessly speculate, that’s for Twitter users not guys who parade themselves around as news reporters.
  17. We know he isn’t 2021 Zach but we have to give him some credit. After a 2-6 start we’re first in the west and he’s done a good job of taking care of the football after a tough start
  18. 2 points
Neuf too....he was the first pillar actually.....hard to believe he been here 11 yrs now I think...was hurt a bit atfirst and we kept having to trot him out there less than 100 percent because the cupboards were baren....he has put in the time and full dues here as part of the culture with Big Stan...he doesn't get a lot of the credit he's due really....his voice carries a lot of clout inside the walls of the locker room

Kyle Walter’s cries a little every time some one watches those clips. Yep. Walter’s was also a very well regarded football mind at the time. He’s a been snapped up very quickly if we let him go. It’s funny we were low key a hotbed for front office talent in an era we mostly struggled, and let the good blooming Canadian guys go for tired old yanks. Wasn’t the guy I wanted but I atleast understood the logic behind that pick. High character role dt with a strong pedigree in the us. him n randle were the big ones right away. Then drake nevis too. Randle was mainly a chance to be a full time guy instead of a dime, the other two got big paydays.
  20. Butchko wow how quick I erased him from memory. I can remember him at center field waving to the crowd as he was booed into oblivion, I bet he has nightmares about it
  21. 2 points
The guy was on his way down and lunged at the qb... there was only one place he could possibly hit the qb in that situation, and that was low. You gotta just accept in that situation that you can't make the play and trying to do so will wind up in an illegal hit.

been saying this for a long time... Sask needs to lock up O'day to a lifetime contract... nothing would make me happier than to see him stay in Sask for a long time... this is just pathetic.... how boring and desperate must your life be that this is the kind of thing you commit time and money too

It wasn't 2012, it was 2013, and he didn't have any chance to impact culture in 13 in a meaningful way being sandwiched between mack and burke. The flushing at the end of that year cleared the slate to finally fully rebuild the mess left from the kelly year. Walters first made the move from the sidelines to the management chair as he began his tenure as Assistant General Manager and Director of Canadian Scouting with the Blue Bombers in 2013.

What a bunch of maroons as Bugs Bunny would say. Also it wasn't the thigh but the knees and below but can't expect a group that can't count to 13 to understand basic human anatomy.
  25. Walters came here as AGM in 2013 and MOS came in 2014 so it wasn't like Walters was a long term firmly entrenched guy.
  26. 2 points
I think you just hit nail on the head there...the Purge needed to start at Oday and the numbnutz above him to create the new culture....and they continue to keep those 2 guys employed We brought in Wade....he cleaned house and set the standard...Promoted Walters...they brought in Osh....the rest is history If the 2 above Osh were not here in the beginning...I guarantee Osh would have been canned ....he almost was...But those 2 believed in their vision...and gave him more time....

That’s one of my biggest pet peeves in sports. The refs are out to get us! Groan. Especially in the cfl where the reffing and punishment has been bad across the league this year.
  28. Until then....we GET IT.... Some of us want to believe and talk about some positives in this team and the epic run we have witnessed these last 4 years. Ffs
  29. Do us all a favor...when Walter's jumps ship or gets fired... Be public with your application for the job?

These young, inexperienced head coaches in the NFL & CFL. Maybe 20% of them find true success. Mace is just looking like another Craig Dickenson with Brown going after qbs & the signing of the angry Ryquell Armstead. He was one hot tomale of a Defensive Coordinator because when he was in Toronto, Pinball signed every available free agent star on the defensive side of the ball.
  35. With no dvorce in sight...we better keep him upright and healthy.... Which brings me to...I hope big Stan is back to healthy....that will definitely be optimal
  36. 2 points
That Dolegala signing really put us over the top
  37. Given that Edmonton is starting a mobile QB and has three quality running backs, yes I would like to see us tweek the roster to have Adams on to play Dline and any other possible change to help with that. Take off Bridges for Adams as we don't need another DB imo.
  38. People are quick to toss all the accolades on a guy....but will ignore the negatives and bad traits...cause we won some games....we did this...we did that...bkah blah blah Well we could and should have won more...had 4 cups....maintained an re-stocked top end players....but we havnt....and it fell right on the coaches feet.... Every coach I have ever known first hand....or in leagues I have been in for all their success's...had fault's and bad traits/bias'....it's not to take away anyhing they have done, but more of a it should have been better...or imagine what if, but most the people here spin it as some posters think they know more...and maybe in some instances some do see the forest thru the trees and do see a better way....it's not un-common And many still look past the fact that in the first 2 cup runs...in many instances we won despite the short sightedness....That will happen when you have some top flight generational talent in their prime able to play above an beyond and mask the short comings...we don't have that now....but still have some poor rostering...and poor game plans...and we sit 7-6 and lucky to be in first...due to a few teams tanking, but also we are close to at par with talent now with everyone...some instances below par....and the record reflects it....Osh didn't in game 5 formulate a new plan or do something radically different to turn it around...he did nothing really....only when injuries happened...we just Lucky Campbell screwed his team dynamic up and Mace is just an idiot Coaching lost us the last 2 cups...any argument otherwise is just nitpicking for the sake of nitpicking....and the 2021 cup was a lucky win too....we escaped that one...were almost outcoached in that...and were severely outcoached in 2022 and 2023....but ya but we made it??...who effin cares...we lost...when we shouldnt have I will reiterate...out of the coaches in the league Osh is the one I want before all the trolls start their usual tripe....But he can be better...and based on past failures and why we failed...he should be better....learn from your past failures...dont repeat them
