$145,000 for 7 games of Betts and wasn't Rouke $300,000. What CFL team has $445,000 ins salary room half way through the season? Seems shady as ****.
  2. The rouge being an issue is sad. Everyone knows the rules…so maybe don’t hand the ball over to the other team on your own 35 in the last minute and then complain that you lost in a tied game? Only rule I absolutely hate is the forced kickoff under 3 mins. You play 57 mins with one set of rules after a FG then change. Rouge is fine…it’s a reward for field position and makes the game far more strategic.
  3. 5 points
The only change I'd make to the rouge is: If you kick it through the endzone without being touched, you don't get a point. That still allows for returns and doesn't reward FG misses.
  4. 5 points
Do not change the rules regarding the rouge, it is a great rule that is unique to the CFL and make the game more interesting. Even if the Bombers lost the game on a last second rouge, I would be saying the same thing, and I think it's ridiculous every time certain teams lose that this discussion comes up. It's part of the strategy in the game to make sure you are close enough to be able to make the kick and incentivizes the returners to run the ball out of the end zone on a miss. It is not a reward for missing a field goal, it is a reward for kicking the ball far enough, or stopping the returner from getting out of the end zone.

  7. Why don't we have guys on the PR? Why are we signing guys on the PR? Some need to pick a lane. Our fanbase getting dumber, or just a few?
  8. 4 points
Why doesn't the CFL focus on getting a competent review process and functional statistics before they **** with the rules that make the game unique....
  9. As has been mentioned. Junior players are non counters. This is likely why we don't hear about other teams doing it. Bringing in a couple guys who might have what it takes to step forward in their careers is good imo....especially if it costs you nothing.
  10. I don't think those 2 count as PR spots. With the addition of Bowers-Kane, we have a full PR of 12 guys and that's not including the 2 Rifles players. The CBA allows junior players to participate in practice without being signed to a contract so I assume that's what this is since there are zero transactions on the CFL site for either guy. Not sure about Davis, but Banfield first joined the PR in May so they aren't new additions either. https://portageonline.com/articles/banfield-joins-blue-bombers-practice-squad

Getting Wolitarsky back, is under the radar great news. Guy is so good at those short little first down catches, which is exactly what we need with Zach’s long bomb ability basically completely gone.
  13. Betts is the Demerio Houston of the DL.

    Last season too

Our best game for QB pressures this season was home vs BC DL was Garbutt, Schmekel, Thomas, Adams, Woods, Jefferson. At BC we killed them with coverage, often dropping 9, very rare we didn't drop out less than 8 in that game. To me, Haba is the luxury. Easy to cover that edge rush with the extra backers and we run a ton of 30 fronts anyways. Adams being on over him is obvious based on the strengths of our current scheme and Haba not being that impactful of a rusher.

  18. Like Farhan with the Lions. Cheat. So, according to lalji, teams that spend to the cap but not beyond are not committed to winning??? What a bunch of BS. The salary cap should be blown up.

  23. 2 points
That eliminates having the returner having to try to keep the ball in play on one that is close to the end line, and takes away an opportunity to score. I wouldn't change it at all.

They didn't learn their lesson with Mike (Michael) Reilly when they gave him a ridiculous contract to lure him out of Edmonton and then couldn't afford any other pieces around him.

2 sided coins IMO One side Rourke is very talented and took BC to heights and helps sells tickets and merch, and is a media darling and will take them to the promise land for the home GC Other side Rourke while talented needs pieces around him with certain skill sets that BC may not have as much of this season, it upsets the chemistry the team built with VAJ, the media will plant seeds of doubt if VAJ is actually the better QB and they don't make the home GC One side BC's defence has struggled, Betts is another media darling, that put up great stats, in his last time with them Other side BC's defence has struggled, Betts has been figured out and it doesn't really change much for them, the media starts to question his abilities, and he doesn't put up the stats to justify the amount he is making Really BC is swinging for it at home this year. It's a huge amount of money between these two, but IF it works they will look like geniuses while sipping out of a Grey Cup at home.... If it doesn't work, they MAY end up penalized for being over the cap, Betts may move on after the season, they will more than likely lose VAJ in the offseason, possibly with some financial loss, and Rourkes contract may hamper them spreading talent around the roster which COULD make them even weaker next season, and sow further seeds of doubt..... I see this season as boom or bust for them....only time will tell how it plays out

Yup that's why it would be nice if Zach could mimic in some way what Anthony Calvillo did so good and get that ball out quick to his receivers.

Disagree. They had a scheme to let Rourke rot back there by taking away his pre-snap (first) reads with multiple coverage looks and changing looks right off the snap. There was hardly any pressure. There were some coverage sacks. Pressure wasn't key to that game plan. But you can't play that scheme repeatedly and against QB's like BLM and Harris. You need to move them.

puts up stats in garbage time...great moving the chains between the 25's....horrible at finishing drives....and thats not recent...thats career....and not a guy who can single handedly pull a team to a win....I think mentally weak too...and 38....good luck with that Sask

I have no issues with the BC Lions blowing out their brains on SMS on two players. Both are highly over rated imo. Rourke isn't much better than what they already had as VA was playing good football for them, and Betts is a one trick pony who was badly exposed last year by the Bombers. Other teams seem to have trouble with him, but we gave them a blue print on how to make him look like a tool out there. RUN AT HIM.

I tell you what, we better go out and buy all the free agents in the off season. We keep missing out on adding established free agents for cap reasons while making the most money as a franchise. Clearly the cap is out the window, time to spend.
  36. Just noticed, we have added RB Kaiden Banfield and DT Zack Davis to Practice Roster. Both from Winnipeg Rifles.
  37. In any amateur sport a violation like Lemon's would make him an ineligible player from the time of the violation on....meaning any wins a team got with him on the roster wouldn't count. Montreal should feel lucky that's not the case here. The players get lengthy training every year from league and union on the gambling issue. There's no excuse.
  38. Yeah probably never. If you do get him he'll be an overpaid guy who is washed like Covington on BC. There's basically 400 OL spots in the NFL and they all pay more than he'd make in the CFL even practice roster. And there's no limit on PR time anymore. Could have a 40 year old guy with 18 years in the league on your PR.

  43. Basically the Western teams use it extensively. BC has a territorial exemption receiver on PR who is a legit CFL prospect. One of Calgary's best special teamers was a territorial exemption two years ago. Cottoy was a territorial exemption. Logan Ferland was for Sask.

Did you guys hear? Calgary has the best taigating in the Cfl!

You don't get a point for missing the field goal, you get a point for kicking the ball through thr endzone. You get a field goal for kicking the ball through the uprights, and you get a touchdown for advancing the ball into the opponents endzone.

We weren't even first last year... BC was tops then us, so we both got the extra pick.

I agree. We exposed him last year by running at him with awesome results and then his DC was forced to make Betts start being gap responsible instead of going pure pass rush every play and his numbers fell off dramatically.
  49. Not with you on this one. Then why have one if it becomes normalized in breaking it? Looks like its just for show. I think it should be more of you go over the cap you will pay dearly for doing that. Right now teams don't even think twice cuz they ain't paying dearly for it.

I can't find the salary cap penalties at the moment but when the football ops cap was introduced, the penalties could reach up to a fine of $250k & the loss of up to 3 draft picks. I would imagine the players cap has similar penalties. https://www.cfl.ca/2018/12/06/cfl-introduces-non-player-football-operations-cap/
