I think we have a pretty good idea of what Fox would add. He was really able to push the pocket that last game in Calgary. You could see significantly more pressure up the middle when he and Lawson were on the field.

Bullshit, they started 8 or 9 Canadians most of the year. Was a lot of easy ways to get another American DL on the roster.

A lot on here were, as far back as pre training camp last year, were aware of the fact that we needed a true nose tackle...It was mentioned on this site ad nauseam...The average fan could see it, yet we brought in very little talent to compete for the job....Adequate is not acceptable when your goal is a Cup win....We have to unearth another 'Stove', who can plug up the middle and put mega pressure on the qb.....Glaring weakness last year and we paid for it...I hope management has awakened to the problem and brings in some serious competition and quit farting around

A glaring hole? Casey Sayles was one of the best DTs in the league in '22 and was again in '23 after the Bombers let him walk. Even last year it's overblown to say DT was a glaring hole. Should they have just handed Ricky the starting DT position with minimal competition? Definitely not, but even then Ricky performed well in '23. Teams look for gap shooting 3-techs out of their Americans and have their Canadian DTs work the 1-tech spot and plug against the run. Not an active poster on here but read a lot on the team and closely watch/record every game and frankly disagree with you here, though I do respect your opinion

  10. What's inclusive? The rules have always been there in one form or another going back to the 60's. They just took the rules already there & expanded upon them. That's not being inclusive. One of my best friends is the son of Stamps great DT Don Luzzi. He's in the Canadian Football Hall of Fame. He came to Calgary in 1957 born & raised in Connecticut. He was an All American OT/DT at Villanova who played with Joe Faragalli. He played 11 seasons for the Stamps. After 5 years, he became a Canadian for roster purposes & played as a Canadian the rest of his career even though he never set foot in Canada until the day he arrived as a rookie for training camp. That was then. As some of you know, my son lives in Seattle. His wife is an American. They're expecting their first child this coming May. If they have a son who plays high school & college football down there & is becomes good enough to be drafted by a CFL team then he could play as a Canadian because my son was a Canadian citizen. This is now. The rules have always been there in one form or another. If anything as I said, it's an expansion to the rules of what teams can do now with their rosters on Game Day with the definition of a Canadian. That's not being inclusive.

AND he gets a heckuva lot more reps......I also thought Fox was looking pretty good and then was pretty much shelved...I know you have to go with experience and the newer players are put on the backburner but I think we've seen enough of Fox to give him a substantial look right off the bat ...He's a gooder

Sayles is closer to Walker than he is to Stove (or at least what Stove used to be). Neither guy is a liability, just not as good as what we had so we should be looking to improve because we know it's possible. This was Walker's first year as a starter so we'll see how much he progresses.

I don't hate the team. I hate how all the bad head coaches & GM's they've had have eaten up & spit out their players. Especially at qb. Look how Caleb Evans, Nick Arbuckle & Dustin Crum have been thrown out on the field with little or no help from their offensive coaches only to get beaten down, chewed up & spit out by that team. They show no appreciaation or loyalty to a kid like Dustin Crumb who was a warrior for them last year as they keep recruiting the Next Big Thing at qb every off season only to have them constantly fail. They keep failing because every year they start over with another rookie qb with little experience. They sell a bill of goods to their fanbase who have now decided to stay away in the thousands. They'll sign Brown, sell him as the Saviour of their team, make him their starter & throw him to the wolves while tossing Crumb aside after all the work & effort he put in on a shitty team learning the CFL game with a crap offense last year. The City of Ottawa deserves much better than they're getting from Sean Burke & Bob Dyce.
  14. back in the 60. 70's & 80's when that passing game exploded there was always a t least one starting Canadian who was an impact receiver. The Lions had Jim Young who was a thousand yard receiver & IMHO one of the Top 10 receivers of all time. The Stamps had guys like Rudy Linterman, Gerry Shaw & Terry Evanshen. The Riders had Bob Richardson & Jeff Faairholm, Bombers had Bob Larose, Joe Pop & Rick House. Ottawa had Whit Tucker & Tony Gabriel. I guess my point was that great Canadian receivers have always been a part of CFL offenses going back 70 years but I agree with you that the guys that play now have taken things to another level.
  15. KSB is a horrible route runner and technically awful...was so hyped by Suitor and TSN for a few good games and play...suspect hands too. Woli has great hands...great routes...knows where soft spots are to help out his QB...great in run game and pass protection...as solid as solid as u can get...and he's a leader

In reality we have little idea of what Fox can contribute as he was given so few opportunities to perform last season. If they decide to roll with Walker and Fox this season, I'm not going lose sleep worrying the coaching staff doesn't have a clue what they're doing.

I don't think it's that they don't recognize it, it's just that players like Stove and Nevis don't grow on trees and the USFL/XFL were making it harder to recruit. I'm hopeful this year sees more US recruits coming north.

What made Stove a "true DT" and Sayles and Walker not? Stove was the best DT in the league at the time... Sayles was playing at a near All-star level for us and then was an All-star as soon as he left and got more shine on a team without Willie and Jackson overshadowing him... Ricky is not quite as good as either Sayles or Stove. I'm not disagreeing with anyone there. But he's a solid starter in this league, not a guy that was hurting the defense. I'm not saying Ricky couldn't be improved upon, just that I think it's ridiculous to say we need a "true DT" just because we were so spoiled with Stove and nobody has been able to replicate his production in the last few years. We need what everyone needs, a stud pass rushing american defensive tackle who generates pressure because he is too athletic for slower Canadian interior linemen to handle. Ricky does that, just not as well as the aforementioned players

This is a job. He’ll go where he can make the most amount of money. We have certain incentives here that can bridge the gap a little, but that only stretches so far.
  27. You really hate the Ottawa ALLCAPS ... Also I think JBR was talking about BOLo and Bailey following DB
  28. Cottoy and McInnis are basically uncoverable and huge mismatch issues. Those guys and Wolitarsky are best at that basically H back who blocks but also lines up really anywhere kind of role.
  29. Congrats to Woogie, gettin hitched!
  30. Good to see Woli back. Demski, Woli, Dobson, Eli, Neufeld, Kramdi, we're looking all right at our National spots.
  31. Gray is the swing guy we need....plays all spots well ..not spectacular but he's still young in regards to oline I'd like to see Dobson overtake him and he be our sixth...but also be the guy to come in for what Jackson been doing...he did do it some games already...he's athletic enough and that's all he knows....moving bodies and he always one of first lineman down field blocking....frees up the DA spot and allows an actual impact player on the field as well
  32. I don't wanna lose Gray (he's the Manitoban that nobody talks about) but IMO, he's the 6th man right now. I'd start Dobson over him at G, and obviously Eli at C and let Koala go anywhere else. But Gray's versatility is still useful.

It's mostly the ratio keeping Fox off the field, if they had the ability to play 2 import DT's instead of 2 Natl. DT's, he'd see a lot more reps. They need to find that Natl. DE that can make an impact this year to open up more flexibility on the D-line.

Fox in limited time (Calgary game especially) looked like he could provide more of a push from the DT spot. Can't recall how he is as a run stopper. We do need a DT upgrade however.

  44. Emilus needs to put solid seasons together first...but he doesn't do it all either...Mcinnis too...one yr really of good production...but also was in a pass first and pass heavy offense....Cottoy I would put in the teir with Woli....Smith...had to look him up ..let's see what yr 2 thru 4 holds...he seems like right now a 1 trick pony
  45. Gray is a liability in pass pro who can play guard and edge in goal line set. He should be a tackle long term but needs polish. Woli resigns for 2 years. Nice to have Strevys room mate locked up.
  46. https://www.bluebombers.com/2024/01/20/winnipeg-blue-bombers-re-sign-receiver-drew-wolitarsky-to-two-year-deal/ Woli back!
  47. Basing it a lot of an article on CFL.ca. https://www.cfl.ca/2024/01/16/landry-bombers-ready-to-navigate-free-agency/ Running back Brady Oliveira, the CFL’s Most Outstanding Canadian in 2023, tops that list but he is by no means alone in the category of key veteran players whose decisions set the tumblers on everything else clicking. Receiver Dalton Schoen’s contract is about to expire. So are the contracts of offensive line stalwarts Jermarcus Hardrick and Stanley Bryant. And defensive lineman Jackson Jeffcoat. To name a few. The Bombers have a big list of primetime players on the potential free agents list. “There is a delay while we sift through all of that,” explained Walters. “But once one or two, three of those guys get locked in and we have a ‘here’s the direction we’re going,’ then I think the rest of things will move fairly quickly.” “Once your highest price point guys get slotted in, or you realize you can’t get them, then the ball can get moving on everything else.”
