I just feel like the % of draft picks retained is such a red herring overall. Take us, who had home town guys we didn't draft want to come home that kept us from retaining our own picks because they were too good to be unseated. Or the loss of 3 high picks to the NFL, or having such overwhelming depth that we can allow a couple OL draft picks to go elsewhere because we have cheaper excellent options.... it creates a skewed stat. One would have to be taking a few blows to the head to not see that Winnipeg has been drafting and retaining players, not just NATS, at a very high level....probably the best out of all teams in the CFL over the past 4-5 years.

Yep, it's tough when your draft picks play so well that they go to the NFL, or price themselves out of the market for us. Lucky for us players want to be here so replacing the excellence we lose does not hurt us as much. Kind of useless though without context. What draft? How many drafts? Equal number of picks for all teams?

I can't help finding that odd, considering that Selinger was Doer's finance minister. They also had people like Bjornson and Ashton, who had been there long term. I guess if you're dysfunctional as a group, experience doesn't mean as much

Another example to throw on to the heap that demonstrates the true ilk of the GOP. “If this Legislature collectively decides that legislating hate against children is our priority, then I am going to make it painful — painful for everyone,” We need more of these types of approaches where dangerous lunacy, drivel and knuckle dragging thoughts lurk. Well done.

Tennessee GOP congressman pocketed $25,000 donated for his stillborn son's memorial: report Freshman Congressman Andy Ogles (R-TN) appears to have pocketed $25,000 he crowdfunded to build a memorial for his stillborn son, reportedThe New Republic on Wednesday. "An investigation by NewsChannel5 found that Ogles set up a GoFundMe in 2014 after his son was stillborn. Ogles said he wanted to build a garden where families could bury their stillborn children and sit on benches by the gravestones. The GoFundMe raised almost $25,000, but the garden was never built," said the report. "GoFundMe confirmed that Ogles received the money. He declined to answer any of NewsChannel5’s questions about what happened to the funds." https://www.alternet.org/tennessee-republican-25000-sons-memorial/

But there was also an outside factor. It's true that some of the most talented and experienced MLAs left, like Oswald, after the challenge to Selinger's leadership. This caused them to lose a lot of very talented staffers too. Then, in May 2015, the Alberta NDP took a majority in that province and drained out most of the rest. By then, the writing was on the wall, so everyone left. Politicians are just the front facing part of the machine. You still need an effective staff in order to get things done and generate appropriate new ideas.

Just going to leave this here for no particular reason, but it does seem to address the "It's right because it's popular" argument. "One of my favourite indicators of that is the fact that, after the announcement that U.K. voters had elected to leave the European Union, the second-most-searched-for question on Google regarding the E.U. was “What is the E.U.?” And, just ahead of the vote, one of the most common questions was “What is Brexit?” Yikes." - David Moscrop - Too Dumb For Democracy
