I can’t pretend to know even a fraction of what Buck knows but why even put a 3rd stringer in that position? Especially when we were running the ball so well! Even if we keep running the ball and have to punt, we frickin win that game. At no point in the season did I see Prukop put in a situation like that. So why do it in the Grey Cup up by six?

Sure disagree with me all you want- that doesn't make you right. Saskatchewan's health orders were set to expire feb 28- they made every indication that they were easing restrictions.... Manitobas were renewed on feb 11th and were trending towards more easing of restrictions on March 4th. IDK about Ottawa... but they lifted it too- knowing ford, he's not going to be swayed by truckers protesting. As for slow walking... Palister opened up Manitoba too quickly and had to clamp down again because of rising deaths and hospitalizations... You are out to lunch on many of these points you talk about.

the fact that we had a ******* FG (!!) blocked gives me all sorts of flashbacks to 2001 and Bob Cameron, who almost NEVER had punts blocked, of course has one blocked and ends up a TD. One of the most sickening football plays of my life....and we see a similar thing happen again last Sunday. Sigh. Just ******* disgusting.

as I learned this past weekend, I'm not sure how I will handle things if we're not just expected to win every game of the season as long as our starters are in the game...... I mean, I'm sure there'll come a day, but I'm clearly not ready for that yet. I want 20-0 every year with 50-0 blowouts in every game. I will stand for nothing less!
  9. this is a hot, borderline insane, take. Dru Brown looked great vs BC at the end of the year. He had a couple of young-guy picks, but he can manage the offense. Matthew Schiltz is awful. There is no upside with a guy like that. Prukop is the question mark for next year, not Brown.
  10. Who mentioned a miraculous upside in brown? I was simply stating at this point in their careers. Brown is not only better, but had more upside than shiltz
  11. 3 points
Rumor was that when the trade was going to happen. Walters had an extension ready to go for him...so I'm hopeful both parties are still able to agree to a contract.
  12. 3 points
I like Shiltz; I thought Hammy would have done a lot better last year if he didn't get injured. But he isn't close to Dru Brown. Whether Brown is the guy or not is besides the point; we know Shiltz isn't. Brown has shown flashes and still has upside. He's the perfect guy to have around behind Zach.

I can't remember if it was twice or thrice, but we did the whole victory lap over Covid multiple times in the face of protest from doctors and experts. We even offered public funds to attract large events. Our health minister even accused doctors of trying to spread panic. I believe that was not long before Pallister's "cancelling Christmas" speech. Our health system couldn't (and didn't) handle the load that was created on it. Lots of people "listening" now. Anyone that sees it as a way to make a quick buck the same way Trump keeps beating the drum. Pollievre's support has everything to do with boosting his own political power and getting suckers to donate and support his cause. Any non-mainstream media that supports the cause does it to make money.

I knew that the convoy supporters would seize on that as some sort of victory. As I said, it's like protesting the dark and demanding the sun to be released...

Nope. What we were told was that vaccines (in combination with other measures such as masks and distancing) would HELP REDUCE TRANSMISSION and would HELP REDUCE SEVERE CONSEQUENCES (ie Death, being very very sick) which is exactly what they did. Listen, I'm a big fan of listening to people who are really smart....went to school for a decade and study these things their entire professional lives...... why would we not listen to them? My barber said to me "what would you like done?" and I said "You're the professional... I wouldn't tell my mechanic how to fix my truck and I'm not gonna tell you how to do your job. Just clean me up so I'm presentable". All I'm saying is: Listen to the professionals...the experts. When 99% of experts/professionals agree on something, they're probably right.

From Our Man Tait's wonderful piece: https://www.bluebombers.com/2022/11/24/theyve-built-something-very-cool-here/?fbclid=IwAR1JZnJaYqHVswja5--ToFgMi-f0nvgXySqpOdQ8-V8365vxA9gQETLBtZg O’Shea was also quizzed about his interest in potentially taking on more management duties – like Wally Buono, Cal Murphy and others before him – but wouldn’t even entertain that thought. “I’ve never been in a position and been thinking about another position,” he said. “You’ve heard me say it 100 times if I’ve said it once: as a player I never thought about being a coach. I never critiqued coaches; I never did anything like that. I was, ‘You’re the coach. You tell me what to do. I do it.’ “I have my role and I solely focus on my role. I really do. And I don’t even entertain ideas of other roles because that’s not where I’m at right now. I try to stay as present as possible. To me, that makes it pretty easy.”
  22. FWIW… not many Rider fans like Ball either. He allegedly has no sources yet spouts off like he’s an insider, and then is immediately wrong.

  26. Don't you see when you lay it all out like that, that the "vet back-up" you want doesn't exist?
  27. Shiltz ain't a competent backup tho is he? I'll take Brown and his upside at backup over Shiltz and his veteran experience. Sometimes veteran experience doesn't mean much
  28. 2 points
Because he made way more than anyone else - not just a little , that is why he left. Unlikely to happen again and he has probably found out it was worth it for a year but not long term to chase the cash One bad year and your value tanks- even if said year is mostly out of your control. More term , more stability, more winning and playoff money

I'd love him back. All the way home from Regina, my buddies and I were envisioning a Lawler/Schoen led receiving core that made last year's team look like the Riders. We just have evidence of him leaving for the paycheque, and we were unable to even get in the same tier with an offer. So realistically, what's changed? We're clearly re-signing our core, raises will be due. And our claim to fame has been filling holes with Alford's, Schoen's that replace departed players on rookie deals..

While I agree that there were several factors that lead to a one point loss last Sunday, I believe that at a minimum, the Bombers have to bring in some serious competition at kicker/punter position. (Darn, in spite of how poorly the Bombers played and were coached in certain aspects of the game, at the end, it was still there for the taking.) Yes, Liegghio took a "massive leap" relative to last year. However, in three regular season games where he was kicking last year, he missed 3 of 8 FGs and 3 of 8 converts. It would be difficult to not improve on those numbers. So, he did. However, this year he was still 7th of 9 regular kickers in FG% and 8th of 9 in convert success. There was a definite improvement in his %s but relatively speaking he was mediocre at best. And for KOs (yd. per kick), he was 4th among regulars and with a 46.9 yd. punting average, he was 5th among regular punters.

You are a God damned idiot. Covid vaccines were extremely effective against the original strain of covid. Trouble was by the time they were readily available the thing had mutated and they were less effective at preventing transmission... but still highly effective at preventing serious illness. You know the kind of thing that could overwhelm a healthcare system. We have a really swell large scale study group in the state. Go look at some of the data from red states cs. Blue states regarding the impact the difference in how covid was treated is having.

Somewhat related - my dad has been obsessed with the invasion since it started. Maybe partially due to his Ukranian roots or the David/Goliath angle. He was pumped to hear about the Ukrainian Postal service releasing stamps and such to commemorate victories in the war. I placed an order for some stuff on Oct. 18 hoping for it to be here by Christmas for a gift and it arrived this week. If anyone else is looking for some gifts for the Ukrainian in their lives, my shipping time suggests that the orders should be close to arrival for the holiday, if not Ukrainian Christmas. I put in a large order with several large items that likely delayed my shipping time somewhat. Поштовий маркет - Інтернет-магазин Укрпошти (ukrposhta.ua) Ukrposhta | Ukraine’s national post

Noeller, here's a story you'll appreciate. Twenty years ago, I was on the coaching staff of a high school team here in Calgary. The players were great & they tried hard in every game we played but we were awful. Virtually no experienced players or talent. Mostly rookies, We got our asses handed to us every game. We went 0-8 that season. We got shut out in 7 of those 8 games. We were playing (I believe) our 6th game of the year & suddenly out of nowhere our offense started clicking. Our qb was throwing strikes & our fullback started ripping off some nice yardage. He was a big kid but green as grass. I remember he ran straight up. I was his coach. Damn if we didn't have a drive going instead of all the 2 & outs before. We got down to the one yard line. We tried to score but the other team's defense rose to the occasion. So, on third down the HC yells "Field Goal!!!" & out trots our kicker for his first FG attempt of the season. It was from 8 yards out. We thought it would be an automatic three points but... no that wasn't how our team worked. Why take the easy way when you can do it the hard way?? Our kicker missed & the ball sailed thru the end zone for a single point. The kids erupted on the sidelines!!! They didn't care. We scored a point!! We scored a point!! We scored a point!! One measely single point which meant we wouldn't be shut out that season. The players were so happy jumping up & down, giving the Joe Namath one finger salute, hollering. yelling & laughing. You'd think we were City Champs. The other team must have thought we were insane. We ended up losing that game & were shut out the remaining 2 games but it didn't matter. We scored a frigging point!! That's what was so important to the kids. It saved that bleak season for them. Craziest thing I'd ever been a part of. The kicker became a hero on the team. I still chuckle when I think about it two decades later. Just trying to cheer you up, Noeller my friend.

C'mon man, that's just not logical. Most of the world had lockdowns. We are mostly an export economy - we could have had 0 lockdowns or mandates in Canada and livelihoods would have still been severely impacted It's hilarious that you would say the federal Conservatives did not support the convoy. Maybe check out some of the videos of Candice Bergen in question period The removal of O'Toole was already in the works before the convoy - Bergen took over less than a week after the convoy arrived

The covidiots in the convoy were the biggest group of hateful people... between the white supremacist neo-nazis with their swastika flags and the F*ck Trudeau flag bearers, let alone whatever other groups were in there... Getting a vaccine is not living in fear, it's using well established science to help reduce the effects of a deadly virus. Wearing a mask is not living in fear, it's being courteous to your fellow citizens to protect each other from whatever sickness you may be carrying around... there was a reason why seasonal flu cases were down severely in the fall of 2020, because enough people were wearing masks and properly washing their hands. As for personal experience, I have a good friend who got Covid before the vaccines were available and although he didn't have to go to the hospital, he tells me that he felt like he was going to die. 2 years later, he got it again after having been vaccinated and he said that it was a night and day difference between the two.

People who aren't smart enough to see the forest for the trees, complain about the obvious thing "Well, we didn't make that last kick, so we need a new kicker..." and they don't look at the plethora of things that went wrong in that game, including the offense having a relative pants-shitting. They also don't look at the massive leap Liegghio took from last year to this year, and think about the similar leap he could take from this year to next. It's not like P/Ks grow on trees...... we have a near-95% CIS kicker who has a MASSIVE ceiling, if we let him grow into it. He's not the reason we lost that game. I'd hate to see him go be an all-star for another team next year....

This. And that 4th quarter possession that ended with Prukop's brutal pick sums it up, IMO. How do you watch your tailback break off a 13-yard run and think "let's run an ostensibly complicated passing play on first down using our backup QB?" It boggles the mind.
