Players absolutely care. It's not just a pride thing either, some players have all-star clauses in their contract so this stuff affects their finances as well.

Hamilton went a long time without hosting so they deserve a real grey cup party.

If you don't hate every other team in the league, are you really a fan?
  5. '21 was a pandemic Cup, where they couldn't really do a lot in terms of the parties and such. They got '23 as a thank-you and a chance for them to actually make some money.

and fact he played full slate of games...and didnt just have skewed numbers on bottom dwellers, and also had a better ball protection numbers is also indicative of MOP credentials

So does this mean the Stumps should be worried about us having a huge chip on our shoulder ? 😀😉

the only reason the all-stars matter is because of contract bonuses. It's completely unacceptable for the league to have allowed this to happen. If this was the first time that a situation like this had come up, that would be one thing, but the league is seemingly always tripping over themselves.

I mean...This league makes it SO hard sometimes. Just a bush league moment, no other way to shake it.

2024....2025....makes no difference as this team will retain the core that needs to be retained, augment it with new blood where needed, and is an easy draw to grab a new shiny toy in FA....not concerned at all and we know that in yr 2023 and 2024 moves will be made with 2025 in mind for a solid core and not a huge task to load up for that home Cup win...basically the polar opposite of what Sask did the last 2 years .....fools

And (iirc) a thank you to Bob Young for helping keep the league afloat during the pandemic.

This list is actually much better. Good for Demski, I do feel sorry for those who were told they were all-stars only to get a oops sorry.
  14. Surprised you found that under the mountain of Rider articles. Week of the playoffs, and 70% of the articles are about a team that missed them. LOL. Genius sports indeed.

The Bombers are expecting that they will have to play their absolute best to win. That is their MO every game.

CFL pretty much invites teams to host the GC. Then the team goes to gov't to collect money. Horse trading. The only wrinkle was the Hamilton 2023 game. I believe that was supposed to go to BC. Then back to the East for '24, then to the West (Winnipeg) for '25. Montreal will have to wait an extra year.
  17. 3 points
I feel pretty certain that the league promised Winnipeg either '24 or '25, and would not be at all shocked if that's a part of why they wanted Collaros locked in for both of those years. I have absolutely no information to back this up, but I sincerely feel like WBB FC *DESPERATELY* would love to win a GC in front of the home crowd, because it'd be the only thing they haven't done yet. I mean, there is absolutely nothing more you can do as an organization. Wade Miller could tip his cap and say good night after that one. They really REALLY want that home GC win, I think...

In this world we currently live in it just seems that even getting caught in their web of lies is not enough for them to pay the consequences for this behaviour. This has nothing to do with the color of someone’s political ideologies, it has to do with there needs to be impactful consequences immediately set down on one no matter who they are affiliated with but to choose to blatantly lie that significantly hurts others either financially, socially and/or emotionally. Sort of like what happened to me growing up when I chose to lie that really hurt someone else. I felt immediate and impactful consequences of my behaviour that helped me re-think what I did. There are ways to do this that are fair for all parties involved.

Collaros numbers getting better as the season went on corresponds with the "rumour" that the Bombers very gradually open their playbook as the season goes on, rather than just using the entire thing from Day 1. Once they fully opened things up, and were firing on all cylanders, they were nigh unstoppable.

I love the CFL but man oh man is this ever amateur hour, I could see why things like this, TSN’s production, terrible scheduling, and horrible marketing (or lack of marketing) hurts the perception of the league and makes it tough to gain new fans.

This is why fans votes should not be done in the first place. Forget the confusion and improper weighting, you are just going to get ballot stuffing and “name recognition” votes. Looks like the league caved to media whining.

This might be worth a look, library has it. William J. Bernstein is a neurologist, financial theorist, and historian. "We are the apes who tell stories,” writes William Bernstein. “And no matter how misleading the narrative, if it is compelling enough it will nearly always trump the facts.” As Bernstein shows in his eloquent and persuasive new book, The Delusions of Crowds, throughout human history compelling stories have catalyzed the spread of contagious narratives through susceptible groups—with enormous, often disastrous, consequences. Inspired by Charles Mackay’s 19th-century classic Memoirs of Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds, Bernstein engages with mass delusion with the same curiosity and passion, but armed with the latest scientific research that explains the biological, evolutionary, and psychosocial roots of human irrationality." The Delusions Of Crowds: Why People Go Mad in Groups Hardcover – February 23, 2021 by William J. Bernstein (Author)

The problem was that there was confusion over what was a right (freedom) vs what was a privilege. Being able to go into a private business is a privilege, and being required to wear a mask to exercise that privilege is not a violation of anyone's rights. None of the restrictions took away anyone's rights, it may have limited their privileges, but that was based on their choices (ie. not wearing a mask or not getting vax'd). Choices have consequences, and losing a privilege is not a loss of rights or freedom.

As the virus mutates, the most common COVID symptoms appear to be changing, too SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID, is devastating precisely because it can worm its way into so many different organs and systems in the body. That manifests as different symptoms, from fever to trouble breathing, although an infection can be asymptomatic, too — that is, no symptoms at all. Throughout the pandemic, there have been a few telltale signs of COVID infection. The loss of sense of smell and taste were chief among them. But as the virus has mutated again and again, creating new strains like Typhon (BQ.1) and Gryphon (XBB) which can evade some of our tools to fight it, it seem that the symptoms of COVID may have changed as well. Recent estimates published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday pegged Typhon and its close relative Cerberus (BQ.1.1) as making up 27 percent of cases, an 11 percent increase from last week. Meanwhile, cases of BA.5, the strain that has dominated cases for the majority of summer, dipped below 50 percent for the first time in months. Indeed, emerging data suggests the symptoms of COVID are changing with new variants. And, they can differ regardless of whether you've been vaccinated or not, or previously infected. Newly released data from the ZOE Health Study, which maintains the COVID Symptom Tracker app, finds that the dominant symptoms have shifted. The app was originally launched in March 2020. It quickly logged one million users, who typed in how COVID was making them feel, allowing researchers to pin down some of the most common COVID symptoms. It was part of the reason why it became well-known that anosmia (loss of smell and taste) is a key symptom of the original COVID strain. More recently, ZOE crunched the data from over 4.8 million users and found that after two vaccinations, the top-ranking symptoms were sore throat, runny nose, blocked nose, persistent cough, headache, in that order. (Vaccines can protect against severe disease, which generally means hospitalization or death, but breakthrough infections are not unheard of, although far less severe than infections in the unvaccinated.) Loss of smell has slipped to the number nine slot, while shortness of breath is down at number 30 for this group. ZOE says this indicates "the symptoms as recorded previously are changing with the evolving variants of the virus." Just one dose of a vaccine can shift the order of most common symptoms to headache, runny nose, sore throat, sneezing and then persistent cough. For those who haven't received a vaccine at all, the symptoms are generally closer to the original ranking from 2020: headache, sore throat, runny nose, fever and persistent cough. However, loss of smell has slipped to the number nine slot, while shortness of breath is down at number 30 for this group.
