It's the clear the Cons have no interest in governing or being a part of anything, so the NDP are a natural pick. The CPCs just keep spinning themselves into a smaller and smaller, less relevant party.

PC's know they are going to get wiped out in Winnipeg and this byelection confirmed it, no way it should of been remotely this close. The person leading the party should not be in politics and others wanting a kick at the can don't look much better

The right wing has swallowed the Trump brand of politics hook, line and sinker. The nature of democracy is that the majority of voters will determine government policies. The alternative? Look at Russia or the type of America Trump fantasizes over where a small, militant percentage of people, not necessarily even voted for, do whatever the hell they want., and get drunk on power.

In the 2021 election, the Libs won 32.62% of the popular vote and the NDP won 17.82%. Which adds up to 50.4%. A majority of Canadian voters voted in support of the current government. It's a small majority, but it is >50%.

Wouldn't have voted for him, but good for Obby. Made this community his home, built up some successful business ventures and got elected as a Muslim to the Conservative party in Manitoba.

Anything can happen, I suppose, but I think there are 2 main reasons this is less likely to happen: The Trudeau cabinet is chock-full of capable women who are more interested in governing than in personal power. The only person interested in playing games (Wilson-Reybould) was dealt with long ago. Like him or hate him, Trudeau doesn't run his party like an authoritarian. Pallister and Selinger made major decisions without consulting with cabinet and that generated major friction.

Wab has become much more palatable to swing voters ever since they lived (barely) through PC rule. Both Brian and Heather are toxic. The PCs could get it together if they bothered to get appropriate staff and leaders in place. They're organization has been falling apart. This is an issue we've seen at the provincial level before. Selinger couldn't keep the right staff in place after the split. When Harper left, there was a vacuum and no one was capable of stepping up. I expect a similar fallout when Trudeau leaves.

The greatest damage done by Trump and Trumpism in my opinion has been the 1st degree murder of Truth. The truth is now whatever you want to make up. The Truth is whatever you want it to be regardless of facts. I say 1st degree because it wasn't accidental. Truth and it's supporting facts have always been under assault but it has sadly met it's demise

I agree, the next election might be a foregone conclusion but (as the NDP found out after Doer left) the effects from poor leadership can be felt well after one election cycle. The PC's are very much headed down this path at the moment - no easy answers for them as to who could turn things around though.

We can thank social media for giving the platform for people to easily distribute their ‘research’ and have access to a large population of easily impressionable people who then take this ‘research’ as gospel, preaching it across social media with little to no consequence of it being bunk. They yell as loud as they can you can’t censor me, freedom of speech, muh rights, you’re all sheep while e-transferring their money to grifters who could care less about them but think they are great at owning the libs.

When your thinking becomes so distorted that you are unwilling to accept that you do not have a divine right to rule as you see fit, that necessitates any evidence or logic to the contrary becomes heretical in your view and must be either ignored or attacked. Essentially, they are saying that they do not accept democratic outcomes unless if is in their favour. And that is autocratic thinking.

I just don't know how they can't realize that it won't win them a Canadian election - not even a minority. With past CPC regimes, Trudeau's image/issues would be a clear path to victory.

The current approach from Bergen, Polliviere, peek a boo Bezan, et. al. will just increase their vote count in ridings they are already winning Add another 10 000 CPC votes in Selkirk Interlake Eastman or Portage Lisgar...while the Liberals will win the key swing ridings in Winnipeg Same thing...across most of the country.

Fort Whyte bye-election today. I am reasonably pessimistic that a centre/left split will see Khan getting elected. I would really like to see the Liberals getting official party status. Lamont is solid in the Legislature and I'd like to hear more from him.

I agree. Everything goes through the PMs office in Liberal cabinet. I don't know how that could even be disputed. I would think most parties operate in this manner to some extent. The message has to be controlled. When a leader is ousted it is messy business. Very few leadership transitions go smoothly if the leader has overstayed his welcome. Trudeau is rapidly approaching that point.

In Manitoba's case we shoulda had beds available in the province (or shouldn't have cut ICU capacity pre-pandemic to begin with), coulda hired trained and equipped emergency personnel to transfer ICU patients when beds did run out, woulda saved Krystal Mousseau's life and we'd have one less very clear failure to point at And what good are the toughest restrictions in the world if enforcement is sporadic and inconsistent at best? Springs? Monstrosity? Half the gyms in the city.... How were these places able to continue to function while flouting the 'toughest restrictions in the world' with impunity? Nobody in power ought to be patting themselves on the back for a job well done imo
