6 pointsStatues of historical figures have next to zero value in educating people about actual history. Therefore, there is little history erased when one is torn down. We should be spending more on books and less on statues and even less on fighting to keep them up in public spaces.6 points -

But there is zero evidence that Canada was involved and zero evidence that this was lab created. I know people like to find conspiracies but, honestly, the most likely answer is probably the most correct. It's telling that a rag that downplayed the virus and have been calling it a hoax, all of sudden want to blame people and governments. I thought it was a hoax? They're just trying to sell you something.4 points

4 pointsIf not just for appealing to ones own humanity, there are other reasons we should be helping poorer countries get their population vaccinated: - If we want things to actually go back to normal, we need to stop VoCs, these are the largest threat to us getting back to normal. VoCs originate easily in a population where the virus burns through the population unrestricted. Vaccinated populace helps prevent the rise in VoCs. -The IMF projects that a $50 billion investment into vaccine roll out in the poorest of countries, would generate returns of $9 trillion in the global economy. -lastly, it's the right thing to do.4 points -

3 pointsThey won't be close to the team or coaches. 500 vaccinated people in a arena that holds over 15,000 has very, very low risk. About as low as anything you could normally do. I think it's frigging great and a classy thing for the Jets to do. It's also uplifting at least to me to see just a tiny bit of a return to normalcy. And I'm thrilled to see those who have been exposed for a year and a half get honored like this.3 points -

2 pointsNo history is erased when a useless statue is removed from a park, university campus, public space etc. The fact that such individuals would be "celebrated" to that degree is pretty messed up, IMO. And that's to say nothing of institutions, roadways, etc. being named after them. We can gloss over our nation's bloody past all we want but those skeletons in the closet, so to speak, will inevitably come out over time. We're seeing that unfold right now before our very eyes as we learn of the horrific reality of what residential schools actually were.2 points -

2 pointsI watched in its entirety Game 1 of the Best of 3 1968 Western Final from Regina between the Riders & Stampeders. The Stamps would go on & defeat the Riders to advance to the Grey Cup vs the Ottawa Rough Riders. It was so great to see the heroes of my youth again. Stamps qb Peter Liske throwing darts into a 35 mph (60 kph) wind that day, Flanker Terry Evanshen spraining his ankle on a touchdown score, refusing to come out & gutting it out the rest of the way, He was interviewed by sideline reporter that day Don Wittman. He told Witt that "nothing will keep me out of this game." Rudy Linterman returning punts like a warrior with no blocking. On the Riders George Reed & Ron Lancaster along with halfback Silas McKinney, receivers Gordie Barwell, Al Ford & DT Ed McQuarters. Thoroughly enjoyed watching that game & seeing all those players again.. The other thing I enjoyed were the commercials. You know how we're subjected to one commercial playing over & over driving us all insane on TSN's coverage of the CFL? Back then, the major sponsors were Canadian Pacific, Labatts & GM. Not one commercial that day was repeated. Canadian Pacific especially. They sponsored the first half of the game & they had commercials about their refrigerated rail cars shipping frozen meat to suppliers & customers across the country, CP Hotels, CP Air flying across Canada as well as Asia & Europe, shipping ore from mining operations, CP taking cargo all over the world by container ships, CP Trucking, Passenger Rail service across Canada, CP Freight trains, CP Telecommunications like Telex, Broadband & a commercial how they move rail traffic across canada through their network of rail traffic control centres. Labatts had their song, "When you're smiling, say Labatt's Blue". GM introduced their lineup of new cars for 1968 including the Beaumont & others. It's strange to say this today as we all hate the same commercials repeated endlessly during games today but those old ones were all really well done. I was disappointed in CBC's Don Chevrier. He didn't have a great day describing the play. He got players wrong more than once. On one play he said that Stamps MLB Wayne Harris #55 had knocked the ball down from a Saskatchewan receiver when in reality it was corner Frank Andruski #24 for the Stamps. Harris was nowhere near the play so I have no idea how he came up with that.2 points -

1 pointI personally think it's to late. The only thing chance they have left them out of this spiral to oblivion is their judicial branch. But I dont think it happens. This isn't something that has just happened lately. The US has always had an over the top patriotic zeal. The large well armed hard right and religious right believe their country has been corrupted and stolen from them. They want it back. Now the problem is the country they want back has never existed. It's non stop brainwashing. They are the only country where you hear on a regular basis the following : " they are the greatest country in the history of the world " , "that they police the world and without them all democracy would fall ", they were the 1st democracy " , "the greatest democracy " , " they drive the world economy ", " they have never lost a war ", " the greatest medical system "............I could go on .But the point is Americans believe this BS. That portion of their population feels cheated and robbed of it and they are going to try to get it back. Which of course is impossible but they will burn down the house trying.1 point -

1 pointThe Catholic church has participated in several genocides and has never expressed regret or responsibility. I think they just assume that the organization will outlast any criticisms. This has worked very well so far. This is by no means meant to discount what has apparently happened in BC and other Canadian places, but the Catholic church has always considered people expendable utilities for the wealth of the Church. You may wish to look up the Magdalene Laundries in Ireland, the "butterbox babies" in Quebec and its complicity in the mezzo-American wars, not to mention its shielding of Nazi fugitives in 1945-46. The list is long and appalling.1 point - Canadian Politics
