Huge deal for Kesler.  Are there implications here for the Jets?

Kesler last 5 seasons:

82 GP - 41 G - 32 A - 73 P

77 GP - 22 G - 27 A - 49 P

17 GP - 4   G - 9   A - 13 P

77 GP - 25 G - 18 A - 43 P

81 GP - 20 G - 27 A - 47 P

Andrew Ladd last 5 seasons:

81 GP - 29 G - 30 A - 59 P

82 GP - 28 G - 22 A - 50 P

48 GP - 18 G - 28 A - 46 P

78 GP - 23 G - 31 A - 54 P

81 GP - 24 G - 38 A - 62 P

For sure implications.  Kesler is also 1 year older.

Kessler though is a centre and a pretty decent face-off man.  That should make his value higher than Ladd's.

I still think Ladd's camp is looking for 6 - 6.5M  with similar term to Kesler.

Good point.  Ladd is also the captain and coming off the best year of his career.

In terms ability, they're different players, but in terms of attitude and leadership, Ladd is worth more money than Kesler, IMO. Now, having said that, I still don't like Ladd at the money the Ducks just paid Kesler. That was a massive overpayment and I hope the Jets don't do that with Ladd, as much as I do like the guy.

Ladd will get close to that money and deserves it. It is market value. Why should he play for Winnipeg at a cut rate? I just hope Chevy doens't go longer than six years.

Kessler schooled Scheifele near every shift. Sure, he will be 31 this fall but you will get 3 or 4 very good years from himyet. How far would the Ducks have gone without him in the playoffs this year?

Also, the Ducks are paying only 3 players more than 5m a year and have over 16m of cap space left!!!!!!! Fleischmann is an unsigned UFA and Hagelin, Wagner and Silfverberg are all unsigned RFAs.

people just give the stupidest contracts to centres. 5 years ago sure that deal looks great for Kessler but he's got a lot of city miles on him and he ain't even close to the same player. No way that deal works into his mid-late 30s. Ducks are going to regret that one big time.

He was outstanding in the playoffs, but otherwise I agree. He hasn't had a really good regular season in a few years now. Imo he's changed his style of play to protect his body and it's made his less effective.

I suppose if he can always turn it back on in the playoffs it might be worth it, but that's a big if.

If I recall, he was very good against a very young playoff rookie in Scheif.  But not so much the next round.

I think Kesler is the type of guy you want in the playoffs and his value is very high in that situation but over-all, its hard to justify paying that much for a "specialist".  Yes, he can be a difference maker in the playoffs to a degree, but thats a lot of money and term for what he brings over-all.  Unfortunately, due to Ladd's injury we didnt get to see what he can bring in the playoffs
