Posted June 14, 201411 yr comment_56722 An Esks defensive back & a Lions receiver got tangled up on a pass play downfield & a PI was called. The ref & Glen Suitor referred to it as "accidental pass interference" so instead of moving the ball up to where the infraction occurred it was an automatic first down & a 10 yard penalty against Edmonton. I got to thinking that I've never heard of Accidental PI. But both the ref & Suitor used the same terminology so I was wondering if there's been some kind of rule change? My way of thinking is if it was accidental then why is it a penalty? Makes no sense to me. Isn't the proper term supposed to be something like, "Incidental contact on a receiver downfield" instead of accidental pass interference?
