Let's look at the last few of them: 2013 Gaydosh 2012 Heenan 2011 Muamba 2010 Williams 2009 Rottier 2008 Barker 2007 Baumann 2006 Braidwood 2005 Robede I see only two every-down CFL players in there -- Heenan and Muamba. Everyone else is at best marginal, or in Gaydosh's case, busy in the NFL.

Turning a backup QB into another first round pick is a pretty sound play for a team that's gonna suck for at least a couple of years. I don't know much about Antoine Pruneau but if he turns out to be a player then no one will care that Desjardins had to **** Kevin Glenn around for a few months to get him. As it turns out he may get away with the QB glitch, but, in my view, I don't know that what he gained in Burris over Glenn was worthwhile, considering he could have had two FA starters for the money he paid Burris. But that's an old story. Desjardins may have got away with it, but then he did trade away a 1st rd. draft pick and the rights to another player for only a roster player, so does that start the talk that-he's-an-idiot on again? I wonder who he could have had from the Stamps in the expansion draft if they didn't take Glenn? Would that haul have been more impressive that Pruneau? Perhaps, but no real guarantee that Burris chooses Ottawa over Winnipeg. Glenn was assurance at the time. On the flip side, it allowed them to protect two extra Canadians. That is the area that would intrigue me most as to who they could have picked over J'Micheal Deane.
May 14, 201411 yr comment_50584 On the radio in Calgary this morning they talked quite a bit about the trade and why would Huf give up on John Gott. The prevailing opinion was that Gott is a warrior but is often injured but not enough to miss a lot of games. Last year the trainers basically bandaged him from head to toe to get him ready for games. But the concern was, is this the year he gets injured and can't play. So Huff is looking at Lavertu as a younger version of Gott but without all the aches and pains that Gott brings to the table. Desjardins is taking a calculated chance here and is trying to field a competitive team in year 1. The ownership group are concerned that the Ottawa football fan is fickle and may not return next year if they struggle this year. So Desjardins needs to protect his most valuable asset in Burris and Gott brings a guaranteed pedigree vs. taking a chance on Lavertu or someone else.

Everyone else is at best marginal, or in Gaydosh's case, busy in the NFL. To be quite honest and stretch that a bit further, a slight majority of first round picks as a whole don't work out. Of course a significant portion of that is due to the NFL in the past years. Now things are starting to even out, so first round picks are becoming less of a gamble. Talent is getting better, players are transitioning from special teams and sub packages to actually starting, so it's good.

Maybe they'll be fine but I wouldn't say they have one of the best offensive lines in the league. Way too early to say that. I would agree. I really like Ottawa's line, but they are young. Young players make mistakes. Offensive line is one of those areas where mistakes cost big. Kind of compare it to Hamilton about 5 or 6 years ago, they allowed the most sacks in the league over two years by quite a bit, but they were a little bit green with their youth. Hage, Dyakowski, they drafted Rottier in 2009, added Goodspeed and Gauthier from the Bombers - Goodspeed had an all-star year at tackle. They dropped their sack totals significantly from 2008 to 2009 by adding some solid veteran presence to that line. Sort of the idea behind adding Jon Gott, I feel.
May 15, 201411 yr comment_50648 Isn't one of the main things about the oline is playing together, i mean they need to learn each others tendencies and all that stuff, might be tough for 5 new guys to do that so quickly but yeah actually looking at the line, it does have potential, i just really feel they are gonna need some time to gel and come together. As far as the trade for glenn though, i think the original poster is on to something and lulay probably isn't as healthy as he should be at this time.
