Posted November 5, 20222 yr comment_606374 We are few weeks from the Soccer World's biggest event and I know that there will be many an eyeball watching this year because Canada finally made it again. Bad news today for the Canucks as Alphonso Davies left today's match with what looked like a hamstring injury. Edited January 20, 20232 yr by bustamente
November 8, 20222 yr comment_607222 https://www.cbc.ca/sports/soccer/khalid-salman-gay-criticism-qatar-world-cup-1.6644211 Quote An ambassador for the World Cup in Qatar has described homosexuality as a "damage in the mind" in an interview with German public broadcaster ZDF only two weeks before the opening of the soccer tournament in the Gulf state, highlighting concerns about the conservative country's treatment of gays and lesbians. Former Qatari national team player Khalid Salman told a German reporter in an interview that being gay is "haram," or forbidden in Arabic, and that he has a problem with children seeing gay people. About 1.2 million international visitors are expected in Qatar for the tournament, which has faced criticism and skepticism ever since the gas-rich emirate was selected as host by FIFA in December 2010. Concerns about LGBTQ tourists attending the World Cup have also been expressed for a long time. In the interview, Salman also said homosexuality "is a spiritual harm." "During the World Cup, many things will come here to the country. Let's talk about gays," Salman said in English, which is simultaneously dubbed into German in the TV segment. "The most important thing is, everybody will accept that they come here. But they will have to accept our rules." The interview was cut short by a media officer of the World Cup organizing committee after Salman expressed his views on homosexuals, ZDF reported.

Close to 100 migrant workers were killed during the construction of the sport facilities, the authorities will not allow any display of same-sex affection and have imported several hundred Indian and Pakistani people whose job is to smile, wave and cheer while filling any empty seats during the events. These are not highly paid, but have their travel costs and lodging/food costs covered- and these are not Michelin recommended.

November 21, 20222 yr comment_612594 This World Cup is the Olympics in condensed form- bribery, racism, corruption, politics and, of course, the siphoning of money into already deep pockets.

November 22, 20222 yr comment_612811 Big upset today as 3rd ranked Argentina has 3 first half goals waived off due to offsides (by a hand or a torso in 2 cases) and loses 2-1 to Saudi Arabia, ranked #51 in the world and the longest odds to win of all the teams at the World Cup.
November 23, 20222 yr comment_612941 Canada is off to a damn good start in the 1st 30 mins. To bad on the missed penalty kick
November 23, 20222 yr comment_612946 yeah and then the plain old missed penalty, we all saw him trip!!!!
November 23, 20222 yr comment_612948 Canada looked good, but it doesn't matter if the other team buries their chances and you don't, regardless of how many you get.
November 23, 20222 yr comment_612949 I don't expect Canada to win a single game, and if they can keep it under 5 against per game, that's a moral victory....
