No big loss to the industry . Schumacher was heavily into the S&M scene in Hollywood and he very nearly succeeded in destroying the Batman franchise with his directing- his greatest accomplishment was putting nipples on the costumes.

well this is saddening, he had been fighting the virus since spring, his leg ended up being amputated, and the last thing I had heard about him was that he would have needed a double lung transplant and he probably wouldn't perform again
