It's always going to be a numbers game. For every good Canadian there must be a hundred as-good Americans. Wouldn't be surprised if it's even more.
What we really need is more loopholes for guys like Ben Cahoon and Drew Wolitarsky to slip through and become eligible "Canadians"

Yeah... estimated Canadian population - 37.06 million (2018, according to google), USA - 327.02 million (according to google). Not only that, the differences in weather means in some southern states you can play football longer. As for loopholes... if we're just making rules with the intention of them being bypassed anyways, what's the point?

I always found the CFL draft particularly hilarious... you want to pick football players who's dreams will (most likely) be crushed. The ideal draft pick is someone just good enough to be a stud in the CFL, but bad enough NFL teams won't pick them up. Too good and you end up with a player that never plays a snap for your team... too bad, and well, you end up with Kito Poblah.

And then there was Winnipeg - until the current regime:

Strategy A: trade your picks

Strategy B: draft players who are ‘too good’

This has been a very quiet month for the CFL.

The most interesting story has been a terrible QB being released. The GC host cities 20/21 didn't move the meter at all.

Not good, you can't just drop off the map until May anymore.

The NFL finishes in February and has the combine and FA in March, the Draft in April, OTAs and mini camp in May and June, and full TC is starting up at the end of July.

They had a busy 3 days of FA but nothing that really kept them in the spotlight since the end of November and Grey Cup with bad viewership.

CFL, CFLPA could lower the number of Canadian starters: sources - https://3downnation.com/2019/03/16/cfl-cflpa-could-lower-the-number-of-canadian-starters-sources/

Quote

Both the CFL and CFLPA are in favour of reducing the number of national starters from seven to five after the issue was raised during recent labour negotiations in Toronto, per sources.

I'm both happy and surprised at this.

Well, when their own tv broadcaster doesn't care that is a problem. They never shows the CFL Awards or the CFL Combine. Only the first round of the CFL Draft is on the main network. The CFL brings in huge advertising revenue for TSN & the network could care less.

What would you propose? They're doing the regional combine, then the big combine. They've announced partnerships with Europe. They've opened negotiations on a new CBA?

Frankly, they can't compete with the NHL in this country for news, especially when they're not playing games.

All those things would be positives.

The CBA should have been figured out long ago, they dropped the ball on that. It would have meant the CFL Fan Week event is going on in March. Will it happen next year? Probably, but the CFL needs all the help it can get.

They should actually market their draft eligible players seeing as how people who closely follow the league have never heard of 99% of these kids, let alone seen them play.

Bring back mini camps.

Work with TSN to provide more content. Bring more access to the teams, the players, and what they are doing in the offseason.

You can't just go "well NHL" and give up

I think it has been explained over and over how this was not possible.

I've never seen anything.

Crazy, 9 months before the CBA opt out window:

"The NHL and the NHLPA will meet in Las Vegas this week to discuss its collective bargaining agreement. According to Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet , the players union is expected to discuss extending the current agreement, as the two sides can opt out of the CBA in September."

"Now I'm starting to hear, perhaps, in the next two weeks that the NHL Players' Association could even table an offer to Gary Bettman and the owners to even extend the CBA,"
