ho hum a drive by smear job. GM doesn't release qbs until he sees who he can and can't get is not some huge blunder that this article tries to paint it as. 

I'm waiting for the article explaining how Mack was responsible for Dinwiddie starting the 2007 Grey Cup.

No way you can do that. Once and awhile I have to wonder about Penton, and this is one of those times.

Really?  He was scared to compete with Elliott, Brink and Buck, and would have been worried about Jyles?  That attitude kind of turns me off anyways.

We should release all our QBs right now to show Collaros and other free agents we want them, lest they grow concerned that we may not be serious about our intentions.

Well, one thing is for sure. Eskies OL is as bad or worse than ours & he's putting up big numbers so he'd have done very well here. Would we have won more games, hard to say but it is a shame he's in Edmonton & not here. But after this season & the punishment he's taken there he'll be an old 29 when the season starts in 2014.there

Yes Mack should have released our QB's if that got us a better shot at Reilly.  He released them anyway a few weeks later.  (Bad decision to release Elliott and Brink and keep Buck anyway) 

The one thing that stands out to me is how the article makes Reilly seem like a big *****.

I didn't read it that way mike.. I read it as he wanted to go to the team where he had the best chance of starting.. When they released Jyles leaving Nichols and Backup Joseph it was really a 2 person race for the starting gig.

 

Vs him being the 5th QB.. That and the offence looked horrible in winnipeg for 3 plus years with different OCs and HCs.

 

Not sure QB is the main reason we suck so bad.. Its a good part of the reason, but the Schemes and weak oline pass rush blocking has caused a great deal of our issues.

If he's worried about Jyles, he's an idiot.  If he's getting paid $200,000 plus bonuses he's not getting paid to stand on the sideline.  A little entitled from a guy who had thrown 77 passes.

Best way to show him he should have come here is to pound him into the turf. Repeatedly. With gusto. 

The only important thing is that neither team had a chance to talk to him before the trade...  It was clearly not 'Reilly was never coming here'...

What really was stupid was Reilly not waiting an extra few days & going to free agency. He'd have been the most coveted free agent qb in yeras & could have made a lot more $$$. Just terrible advice. He was so close to free agency so why not wait & entertain offers? Who is his agent, Saul Goodman?

Releasing Brink and Elliott earlier wouldn't have made a difference. Burke showed he would keep going with Buck as long as Buck could stand upright so why would Reilly think he had a shot at starting as long as Buck on the roster.

Why?  It was between Winnipeg and Edmonton.  Reilly was already getting the starting job in Edmonton.  Winnipeg didn't have anything to offer other than money.   Do you really think that Mack would have outbid Edmonton for Reilly?  I don't.

It wasn't what Penton was claiming. I also seem to recall that it was said Mack was high on Reilly as well.

Joe Mack AKA Mr. Dithers really messed this one up.  He waited too long to release Elliott and Brink and by the time he did, Reilly was signed, sealed and delivered to the Esks.  And as far as those who claim Burke would have started Buck anyways, that's on Mack as well. 

 

Never did believe those silly stories about Edmonton being closer to Washington as the deciding factor for Reilly.  This article pretty much confirms.

Way back when, when this was first discussed, I thought that there was no way a QB like Reilly would have any concerns about matching up with any QB we had.

The only ones who know what really happened are the Bombers & the Eskimos. No one will ever tell.
