April 4, 20187 yr comment_325621 http://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/galaxy-centre-black-holes-1.4603464 Quote At the centre of our galaxy lies a supermassive black hole, about four million times the mass of our sun. New research has found that it's not alone. For some time, the theory has been that the supermassive black holes at the centre of most galaxies, including our own Milky Way, are accompanied by smaller black holes. In a study published in Nature on Wednesday, a team of astronomers discovered 12 of these outliers, within three light-years of our supermassive black hole, called Sagittarius A*. The findings suggest that there are upwards of 10,000 surrounding the galactic centre.

August 9, 20186 yr comment_346624 https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/pence-trump-us-space-force-plan-1.4779217 Quote Faced with growing competition and threats from Russia and China, the White House on Thursday said it will create the U.S. Space Force as a sixth, separate military service by 2020. Vice-President Mike Pence told a Pentagon audience that the plan fulfils President Donald Trump's vow to ensure America's dominance in space — a domain that was once peaceful and uncontested that has now become crowded and adversarial.

I suppose that could still happen but if they decide that a base on the Moon and humans on Mars are strategic military endeavors, then the missions become ones of military and not civilian, like NASA.

Obama cancelled W's plans and kicked it to the private sector to lead. But as I recall W. actively wanted a base on the Moon and to get humans on Mars. So for sure, its nice to hear, but they have to fund it. Let's hope they do.
