2024 Blue Bomber Training Camp
I mean the Americans coming in here as tailbacks realize that the incumbent is a Canadian who was just up for MOP? And we have a Canadian backup who has been here for more than half a decade? There's literally no roster spot for them. They are coming in to try to steal a practice roster spot or a shot with another team. I'm not even sure they'd really consider them for return duty unless they blew everyone's socks off because they'll want cover for another spot through that role, likely receiver.

Yeah he will. We're not exactly bursting with Canadians. Lots of rookies.

One person who is extremely conflicted in this current situation says he was fined but offers no context or substance with it (like "I was fined in 2012 for complaining about the schedule") and there's no record of the fine easily found online. Why are you so far up Barker's butt?

Guess the point with Holm is to let things play out and see some guys play ball before they are crowned or discarded. Just ironic that you **** on some guys who have huge and productive tenure based on pedigree but want someone who we've barely seen play who came from the least competitive conference in U Sports anointed.

I'm going to say no. He has it in very brief glimpses where he still makes some plays on the ball but he was more of a liability in a lot of games last year than I think we would get from an average player. I was surprised he made it to this camp. I thought he would have been one of the vets they moved on from.

Jake Kelly? What about him makes you think he'd be a better starter in the secondary than Kramdi or Hallett? We jumped the shark lol. Should we cut Evan Holm still?

There's no defending or deflecting from the Argo coverup either. It's pretty transparent what Barker's tactic is. The guy is involved personally.

The land where the backup QB is the coach/GM's son in law and most of the personnel staff are related. 😆

What a lot of the criticism is in not even of the league response yet. The Argos knew this was going on last season and did nothing. The evidence on that is pretty clear. They prioritized their starting QB being in the lineup over safety of the rest of their team. This issue was reported, discussed by football operations even players and documented by them well before it became a public issue. I don't view the comments as out of line at all. In fact they are supporting league policies that aren't being upheld by certain organizations like the one Barker was last employed by up to 2022. In the absence of any substance his argument is null, yes.

The pedigree of the American middle type guys they brought in this year is pretty high. Gemmel, Petrishen, Moses. Wilson is getting up there too. Hopefully rebounds 2nd year off achilles.

Barker is an idiot trotting out a false equivalency from 15 years ago. Nobody is criticizing the league. They are criticizing the Argos and idiots like Pinball and Barker. Barker is taking is personally because he brought Kelly to the league and is all in.

Quebec is crazy competitive though. I watch a ton of FCS and D2. Even in a good conference like Missouri Valley the lower half of that league is full of guys who wouldn't make Laval or Montreal. Canada West is not a great development league for the CFL anymore. UBC is strong, no one else really is anymore. Ontario is somewhere in between. The guys coming out of Laval or Montreal, even Sherbrooke, Concordia and McGill are ready to go. Kramdi's biggest issue was injuries since he's been here.

I mean they needed Hurl because they had no depth. Kramdi stole an Americans job when he was finally healthy. They paid Mike Miller hundreds of thousands of dollars for the past 2 years to be not very useful and mostly injured. That was a bad one. Trying to make him into an effective player on O was painful. We've spent basically O'Shea's entire time here trying to shoe horn guys who aren't suited to be a H back into being an H Back. Tons of guys around if that position is valued both American and Canadian. See last few years teams bringing more Americans like that up as that "R" spot becomes more about versatility to come in and block but also be able to go out, run a route and catch a ball downfield. Somehow we used an American spot on a guy who was even more useless than some random U Sports player for that role.

Yeah they really should be using Bighill or Jefferson in that Designated Nationalized American role. Then you could effectively rotate with either another American LB or Rush end. With our current roster composition Jefferson probably makes the most sense. But if one of the American WIL/MAC types jumps of the page it makes sense for Bighill too. Secondary a little trickier since they don't really sub much among the main 5. But again it depends on who the DI's they want are. If it's a DB then pop Alexander into that DNA spot. I'm not sure he's keeping the bulk from what I've heard. Think he had a number and if no one was willing he's happy to be done.

It's just what they declare for flexibility purposes. All they have to designate for the roster are the Designated Americans, the QB's and how many Canadians on each side of the ball. They don't have to say who their starting Canadians are, they are just bound to always hit that minimum of guys on the field. Say 6 on offense, so every offensive snap you need 6 Canadians on the field. The Canadian guys would play most reps and you'd effectively have an American who can sub for anyone. Last year and 2022 in a few games they used McCrae like that. Some games they went 6 and 1 using Darby or Parker like that. A DI who is unrestricted for subs because he's essentially a "starter." Say Ford wins the field corner spot...I'm not sure why they wouldn't go 5 and 2 for flexibility considering they have Kramdi, Lawson, Thomas, Gauthier, Karamoko (who can sub for a Canadian).

If they go heavy front they'll both likely be out there with an American DT. They played a ton of snaps last year with 2 Canadian DL, combinations of Thomas, Lawson or Bennett, a few reps of Hansen when he was available. I'm not saying what I want. I'm saying what is likely to happen.

I don't understand your question. Say Eli is injured...our 7th OL is Wallace or an American....that guy would be the 6th OL if we're down any of our Canadian OL. They'd have to set their game roster to fit this, which means you dress Wallace if he's ready to play or you dress an American as a DI to backup. Which probably affects the secondary/LB DI. They might be able to poach someone out of cuts who could be a PR/fill in guy as a Canadian.

I don't see that happening. I could see some packages with Lawson and Thomas both out there. But like a handful of snaps in a game. With Kramdi, Ford, Gauthier there's not much reason to. Be interesting to see if Younger uses 30 fronts as much as Hall had settled into the past couple years. I'm hoping they have an 8 guy rotation on DL...but seems like that is out the window with our Global picks and lack of Canadian edge guys. All our Globals are basically WIL types. Unfortunate.

Pretty thin though if you lose a receiver, running back or two in game if you declare 6. Couple injuries means you have Augustine or Chris-Ike and Clericius/Murphy on the field every down. I know we're high on the draft picks but they need to get their feet wet. I can't see them going 6 and 1 purely for flexibility for sub packages on both sides of the ball. Canadian OL depth isn't great either. They are one injury away from dressing 3 Americans. They have the guys to play 2 Canadians on the field on D between the DL, Gauthier and DB's. They have at least 5 Canadians who are role players on D plus Karamoko. Would be nice to have a Canadian/Global edge guy though. Then you have Hallett, and special teamers if somehow you end up with 4-5 injuries in game. O just have way fewer backups. See DI's being Castillo, one returner (receiver or RB), one rush end, one DB/LB type.
-
2024 Blue Bomber Training Camp
They'll use basically everyone though. Last few years there's only been a couple guys who get almost no reps aside from extra OL. They just have to declare where the 7 starters are, offense or defense. They'll be at 5 on O and 2 on D almost certainly with tons of flexibility.

So they just burned $20,000 on that.- 2024 Blue Bomber Training Camp
There's lots of vet DE's sitting idle right now too. Jamal Davis, Costigan. Getting the right guy to go opposite Jefferson can be kind of tough. They won't want a pure pass rusher but a guy who can be disciplined. Jeffcoat was kind of a 1 of 1. - 2023/2024 CFL (Non Bombers) Off Season News
