Collaros signs 2 year deal
Collaros at $450K with a bunch of it as playing time bonuses is good value. At $490K with 225K of it as a signing bonus and only 50K in playing bonuses is a big difference. The 225K signing bonus is off the SMS before a game is even played. If Collaros gets hurt in the first game like he did last year, the whole $225K is a cap loss. If he goes on the 6 game the SMS savings are based on his per game salary which is 225K less than his total salary.

Collaros signs 2 year deal
3 teams, now 4, have paid big for their QB's. The rest are below Collaros' money despite the fact that Collaros only played 4 games last year. Compare Collaros' contract to Masoli's who played 6 games last year, not to the top 3 QB's in the league.

Toronto's not a good place for Nichols either. He needs to be able to get comfortable behind a great O line to be successful.

Collaros signs 2 year deal
Nichols was $455K last year and that was overpaid. Collaros is $490K. That's below Reilly, BLM and Harris. Is Collaros, especially considering his injury history, the 4th best QB in the league? Only $50K in playtime bonuses considering the concussion issues is dumb IMO. I think we overpaid, but I'd rather have Collaros than Nichols.

Call it the 'Once wore a blue jersey' syndrome.

Collaros signs 2 year deal
I doubt there's enough room in the QB budget to for Collaros @ $500K plus Nichols.

Revisionist history. Weren't you one of those who said that not having Collaros last year in the playoffs didn't matter at all to our win?

I give you Collaros as a guy who has zero knowledge of our system and completely sucked on their last team. That's what folks are hoping for.

When your coach calls you to tell you the team is going a different direction, you've already played your last game for the team.

As you prove week in and week out. Buck the QB was a warrior, not the smartest guy on the field. He took the hits to make the plays which cost him a lot of playing time. Streveler might be able to play like that, but Collaros/Nichols wouldn't last 3 weeks.

Pierce hasn't ever been an OC so he has no track record. Your opinion is based purely on hope that he'll do what you want him to.

Sure, but that has nothing to do with the CFL ratio.

2019-20 CFL Offseason
It doesn't really matter what the sport is. Wrestling, Soccer, Football, Baseball, Hockey, etc. It's a bigger problem getting some players across the border than it is to get them a work permit once they get here.

2019-20 CFL Offseason
Sure but that doesn't really apply to the CFL ratio. If you play sports or are an actor or several other industries, you can work in Canada pretty easily. Every US player is legally entitled to work in Canada and that includes the guys on the PR and the guys who don't even make the team.

Like I said, I'm no expert. As you are, can you point me to where in Canadian Labour Law it says that companies must hire X% or X number of Canadian's. A quick google search turned up nothing. Does the NHL require X number of Canadians per Canadian team or does each team choose the best players?

2019-20 CFL Offseason
I'm no expert, but I doubt there is anything in Canadian Labour law that forces Canadian companies to hire X% of Canadian workers. The CFL has the ratio because of it's own rules and because they negotiated X number of Canadians with the union. Changing the number, which happens fairly regularly, requires the players signing off.

Decades. Likely never.

2019-20 CFL Offseason
Like usual, I've been watching the NFL since the Grey Cup. Way better players, but the game itself is much slower. The NFL and the CFL are both football, but they are way different to watch.

2019-20 CFL Offseason
Its not just the younguns. I'm in my 60's and I'd watch the CFL even if they didn't have a ratio. It's the game that matters to me, not the birth certificates or however else they decide a player is 'Canadian'. 'No ratio' doesn't mean what a lot of folks think it does. It doesn't mean no USports. Lots of folks play sports for the fun of it, not to get a job from it. Most USports players aren't making the CFL anyway. It doesn't mean no Canadians on teams. 8 or 10 players on each team would still get a job, some as starters others as backups. Just like our best make the NFL, the best would still make it. The rest wouldn't. It doesn't mean no home town hero's making the team. The marketing advantages alone would make sure that doesn't happen. It doesn't mean a stronger CFL or the death of the CFL.

2019-20 CFL Offseason
The CFL has too many 'special' statuses. Imports, DI's, Non-Import, Globals, QB's and now quasi-NI Imports. Just give me NI's (7 minimum to be maintained) and non-NI's. That's all we really need.
-
2019-20 CFL Offseason
Not really. A NI QB at #3 might not be designated as a QB. Designating them as any other position would make them an NI which would be good for development.

2019-20 CFL Offseason
It's still confusing. 3rd QB designated as a QB. Takes a backup NI's roster spot (Roster - QB's - Imports - DI's - Globals = NI's). Also means that the other special QB rules still apply to the 3rd QB. 3rd QB not designated as a QB. 3rd QB is a DI and the other QB rules don't apply. 3rd QB on the roster as the reserve. Can be on the roster, but can't dress for games.
