Game 65 : Toilers @ Jets
Not entirely true. His first season in the NHL was a lockout shortened season. He had 17 goals and 14 assists in 48 games. That is on pace for almost 30 goals. He has really done nothing since then. I'd be shocked if a team gives up a lot in a trade for him with where his game is now, but there could be a steal there for a team willing to take a gamble. Edmonton won't get fair value for a 1st overall pick. At the same time, don't really want the Jets to take that gamble.

The Jets' RFA's after this year.
This is one of the problems with the NCAA rule. We have like 30 days to sign him after he graduates but the NCAA doesn't let their players sign or even get subsidized for going to an NHL camp. It is no wonder NHL teams push to sign the players before they are done in the NCAA. If they stay until they graduate, why not wait an extra month to sign with wherever you want. It would be ideal for both the NHL and NCAA if they could sign with a club but continue to develop in the NCAA. I think the Jets need to think about trading Phillips. He is going to be eyeing that goalie depth and see that he is behind Hellebuyck and Comrie and wonder if he would get a better chance with another team.

Choice of channels coming to cable TV packages soon.
The price of internet is going to sky rocket. A lot of people are going to be going to go to minimal cable and supplement the TV shows they watch with some kind of Netflix or streaming equivalent (other services, pirated, or whatever). The expenses of the cable companies are not going to go down nor will their expected profits. If they lose a bunch of income from column A (TV) and everyone moves to column B (internet), all the money they used to charge from column a will now get charged to column B.

UFC
It is ridiculous that everyone does the cut which at best is just not good for your body and at worst can be dangerous for your health. If everyone does it, why not just redefine the weight classes to be closer to people's walking around weight and have them weigh in weekly for a number of weeks leading up to the fight. There would be no real net change if everyone stopped cutting.

Jets vs Oilers Heritage Classic
You can go a head and say it one more time but it won't make you any more right. The Bombers having nothing to do with it. But they are getting $1Million out of it. You don't see the contradiction? Well, thats almost a quarter of their yearly mortgage payment. If you were renting out your house and were told you wouldn't have to pay your mortgage for 3 months because of it, would you consider yourself to have nothing to do with it?

Off-season moves
The NCAA eligibility rules are really weird and murky at best. I wish they would unify them with junior rules. I think the official rule is we have until he is done college to sign him (really hate this rule BTW as it encourages NHL team to push players to leave college early) However, he spent 2 years in the USHL before going to UND. So 2014/2015 was his first year of NCAA play, that would make this year his 2nd year of NCAA. So I think two more years But there could be some other rule in there that I don't know about.

The Jets' RFA's after this year.
I don't think so. They have said the naming of the Captain is going to involve input from the players themselves, Maurice, Chevy, and ownership (Chipman). The reason given is that a Captain in a Canadian city is more then just the duties a captain has to perform in the dressing room and with the players, there is a larger responsibility as he is the face of the franchise to the media and fans. So for those reasons, they've decided to wait and go through the process to get it right in the off season.

What is the benefit of buying him out? If you don't want him on the Jets send him to the Moose where he might be picked up on waivers. If not, he can backup Comry. Either way you are paying him his salary and taking the cap hit. Both options are unlikely to happen.

2017-2018 Starting Lineup
I think this is too simplistic a statement for how the Jets look at salary. The Jets have an internal budget which is typically less than the cap, so in this sense, they can usually take on a player whose cap hit is larger then his salary because they have salary cap space. BUT his actual salary still has to fit into their internal cap. Hamonic has an actual salary of $3.857M next year and $4.875M after that and going forward until 2019/2020. In this case, I think that $4.875M is pretty good value for the game that he brings. And that is what the Jets will look at. Not if his salary is higher or lower then the cap hit, but on a dollar for dollar basis, is the money his salary will take up on their internal budget a good value for the play that he gives them.

Helle Sent Down
Chevy said they won't right away. They are now limited to 4 call ups with the exception of emergency call ups for injuries. So they will wait and see.

There was rumours that another deal was in the works that could have included Pardy if he had cleared waivers. Maybe a team who wanted the call up depth for the playoffs but didn't have a roster spot for him now. We lost him on waivers so that deal obviously didn't materialize. Not a big gamble since he is a UFA next year.

Going to be all about Scheifele and Trouba this off season.- Around the NHL
Yes there is obviously something going on with Pardy as he has been sent down, but this is quite the stretch on Maurice's quote on Pardy. What he said was that the NHL wasn't rec hockey and not every player is going to get equal ice time because they all pay to play. He implied Pardy isn't playing well enough to get equal time in the NHL. That is not calling him a rec league player.- Andrew Ladd
I wonder if Florida was a team on Ladd's list.- Around the NHL
It isn't about what posters think he is actually worth, it only matters what TB thinks he is worth and what they will hold out for. I agree, I would rather walk away from the trade then overpay which is why I don't think we trade for him. I would give Chicago's 1st, Petan and maybe someone like Roslivic, but would prefer the 3rd piece be a different prospect. Not sure TB takes that.- Around the NHL
I don't believe that would be enough for Drouin. Harkins is a 2nd round pick, Burmi is a former 1st round whose ceiling is 3rd line on a playoff team, and Stafford is an ageing vet with a year left on his contract. Drouin would take a minimum of an Ehlers / Connor / Morrissey type prospect + maybe a pick depending which of those it is and maybe a throw in like Stafford to help now with the playoff run. Drouin was a 3rd overall pick, and while there is question on his character right now, TB holds are the cards and they aren't going to take 50 cents on the dollar.- Jets Prospects
I think your missing the point here and with your ridiculous reply in the Marco Dano thread. No one has said Ladd should have been traded for an ageing vet. I even said I was fine with the Ladd trade given where we are in the standings. I also have no problem with not signing Ladd for what he wanted. The comment that Atomic made is that we are a worse team today then we were two days ago. That is absolutely true. Looking at the team again next year, I think there is a good chance you are going to see much of the same as this year. If we have to add another 2 -3 rookies, I would be shocked to see it turn out much different. It isn't fun paying $100+ a game to watch this team play right now. I'm not really looking forward to doing it again next year. Funny thing is the Jets also just sent out the email looking for deposits for the playoffs (although it did said credit cards won't be charged until a playoff spot is confirmed, they are just looking for commitments so they know if they have to sell the playoff tickets). I get that they have to do it because we aren't technically eliminated yet, but that is a brutal email with the team's record and play this year. This is more about the macro direction of the team, not the specifics of Ladd. If we are going to always be one of the younger teams amongst the lowest payroll, I wonder how long the shine of this team will stay on. By the time Scheifele, Trouba, and Ehlers hit their late 20's, are we going to have to move them out as well to "make way for the youth".- Jets Prospects
There is a pretty good correlation between the average age of a team and where they currently sit in the standings (younger = lower). The other problem with getting all these young players around the same time is that they will all also be coming up for big contracts around the same time, and it is unlikely to be able to afford them all. Unless the plan is to hope that you can get / identify 6 - 8 true core players like Chicago has out of all the prospects, sign them and trade the rest, then maybe that works, but we are a ways out from seeing that. Getting the feeling that fans are generally underwhelmed with the return on Ladd. Before the trade deadline a lot of people were talking about how we had to get something for Ladd and something for Buff or it would be devastating and a huge fail on the organization. I always argued there was value in keeping a player if it meant a playoff run, especially for getting playoff experience for younger players. Now of course it made sense to trade Ladd because we weren't getting into the playoffs and all of this is purely hypothetical, but now that we've seen the return for Ladd, does it really make that big of a difference in the future of this organization? If Ladd was unsigned and we were heading into the playoffs, would you rather keep Ladd or get the pick and Dano? I'd rather have kept Ladd. Agree with Atomic. People love to criticize the players on this team when they see them play every day. Depending on the day and poster, Enstrom, Myers, Stafford, Stuart, Thorburn are all the favourite whipping boys. But future pick and prospects are all fantastic. The truth is most of them will turn into the equivalents or be lucky to have the career of the favourite whipping boys.- Jets Prospects
Fronk spent most of the year with the Moose, but was just sent down to the ECHL affiliate (Tulsa Oilers) earlier this week. - Around the NHL
