Grey Cup Game Day Thread. Let's Go!!
Born in 87. I grew up thinking I’d missed them being good. I always half believed my Dad when he joked he’d sold his soul for the 84 Grey Cup.

Same. It’s still surreal to me when they dominate a game.

Well I don’t drink anymore, but I got into a nice hybrid apricot strain at about 9am.

Still the most dominant DB I’ve seen in CFL football.

Even though he was only here a season, Dee Alford has to be in that mix. Nichols too.

My main criticism of Bauming (besides Shannon’s Irish Pub) is that on his pregame shows he tries too hard to not come across as a homer that it backfires. It ends up sounding like the Bombers are going to get destroyed by a bunch of all stars every week. I find him much easier to listen to on the Bonfire post-games. For me his voice has always been kind of grating. His knowledge of the game and stories from the past more than make up for it though.

Could you imagine him on regular pregames instead of Tait? I love Ed, but he has a voice for writing.

IIRC last outside coaching hires were Lapo in 2016 and Hall and Marcel Belfeule in 2015

Between Irving and Tait it’s wild that the Bombers had the 2 best CFL media guys of my lifetime working for the club.

East Final GDT - Argonauts vs Alouettes
As hideously ugly as he is, Kelly came in and made a couple of plays MBT would not have. If we’re going to revisit that awful night for the hundredth time, I’d rank the factors of losing that game as. 1. Kicking 2. Prukop 3. That one scramble by Kelly where Sayles couldn’t catch up.

If Buck leaves (which I doubt this year) I’m pretty sure his replacement would be Kevin Bourgoin or Jason Hogan. It’s kind of the way they do things anyway, but I don’t think they could get a name OC in under the cap.

Have Toronto or BC ever actually had a salary cap?

While I’d love to see him get a shot, most NFL teams are content to bag out 22 year old running backs on the cheap and move on. All the power to him if he can though.

2019 Bombers and 2023 Als, there’s no comparison. Bombers had Harris on a mission and Strev/Collaros, had the leagues best OL. The MODP. Bunch of wins over good teams already that year. Playoff wins in Calgary and Regina. Most importantly, Jason Maas and Cody Fajardo were nowhere near that team. The Als won a home ESF against a crappy Hamilton team and had Chode Smelly show up in the final. There’s nothing the same about the 23 Als and 19 Bombers other than both teams made the Grey Cup game.

Part of it’s that. Just winning and being good for so long will do it. We have had a few guys who would be “love to hate” types on the field, if they were on another team. Harris, Willie, Hardrick, Woli to name a few.

He’s Second Ben Sankey now. My mind went back 15 years somehow lol. But yes, that play was what I was referencing. I’d love to see Demski get a matchup or 2 on that guy.

Not to go to another team though, I think that’s the main thing. Walters (or anyone) leaving for a non-CFL job/family reasons is believable. Walters going to Hamilton, not so much.

The opposition has to be considered too. Betts had 1 good game against a quality opponent (in the summer). Any other big game he was invisible. Jeffcoat (who should have been MODP this year) and the rest of the Bomber D have their best games in the most meaningful games.

After listening to @DTonOB for a while now, I’d agree that he just doesn’t respect the running game/RB position. I love the guy, but it’s very clear he wants the game to be arcade passball all the time. The media obsession in general over Betts is super irritating too but I get it. Big market, Canadian with a French name. The CFL media forces character storylines. That being said, voting for him as MOC over Brady is inexcusable for someone who gets paid to analyze the games.
