My daughter (grade 3) and her class wear their masks all day with the exception of 2 snacks and lunch time without any issues. She's to the point now that when we pick her up from school, we have to tell her she can take her mask off because she doesn't even really notice it's there anymore.

I believe that it's restrictions targeting where they are seeing transmissions. The schools that are seeing transmissions are being shifted to remote learning, but they aren't forcing everyone to go that way if there are school populations that aren't being affected. The majority of cases were being seen when people were visiting each others' homes, so that is what they are cracking down on.

I do wonder if the restrictions are setup to target where they are seeing transmission. I know a week or so back Dr. Roussin had said that most transmissions they were seeing were from houshold gatherings and sleepovers, so if that's the case, the restrictions make total sense. That being said, they should actually say that in the press conference so that it's clear to people. The fact that they aren't shutting down kids activities is a sign to me that they do see the mental and physical health benefits to those activities.

The Public Health Order and Return to Play guidelines say that masks are required when the kids are on the bench, but not when they are on the field. I figure that having to remind them every time they come off the field to put their masks on creates more chaos and I don't want to have to be constantly watching for it on top of trying to coach. I play Ultimate as well, fingers crossed that there is a season this summer. If there is, I will be wearing my mask all the time for that too even though it's only required on the sideline.

I'm going to be coaching my kid's softball team and I've already put in the email to the parents that masks will be mandatory at all times on my team (even though the return to play and public health rules allow them to now wear them in the field). If a kid or parent has an issue with that, then they don't have to be on my team.

Just got home from my vaccination. Had to go out to Steinbach and on the way back, saw a sign on the side of the road near St. Anne that said "Lockdowns are not demonstrably justified"... so that's one of the attitudes out there... Anyway, I feel

Full hospitals and dead taxpayers have an economical cost from the government's perspective. That second one is likely much harder to quantify though.

What a privileged life some people live, to be able to pick and choose which vaccine to get... as has been stated many times before by many people, the best vaccine to get is the first one that's offered to you.

    1) Blood clots are treatable 2) The chance of blood clots from AZ is somewhere between 5 and 10 in a million (seen a few different reports, but all are less than 10) 3) The chance of a blood clot from smoking is 1,753 in a million 4) The chance of a blood clot from Covid-19 is 169,000 in a million Anyone who uses the chance of a blood clot as a reason not to get the AZ vaccine is buying into ridiculous fear.

I'm starting to question the validity of the reports of vaccine hesitancy. I've spent the better part of the last few hours trying to get an appointment, and they are few and far between. Managed to get in to the Walmart in Steinbach on Friday 😀

The biggest "effort" I've seen to that effect is having the higher profile people (Dr. Roussen, Premier Pallister, etc.) getting their AstraZenecca vaccinations posted online and on the news.

That should be a variant, not the variant... there are a few of them floating around (South Africa, UK, Brazil). My understanding is that the Brazil one is the one of most concern, and hasn't arrived in Manitoba yet, but it's likely just a matter of time.

As evidenced by the sheer number of people who seem to ignore the guidelines, I would agree with this. There is a pent up desire among a lot of people to get out and socialize, so I expect that as things continue to open up, most people will be out and about more and more.

Some really good news, if they are able to make it happen: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/manitoba-covid-19-vaccine-timeline-1.5938069
  18. So a few refs make some bad calls, but because the female ref made one of the questionable calls, you're questioning whether she should have even been there? What about the refs who made the other questionable calls, should they have been working that game? 🤔 In real time, that one looked to me like a good call, but when they showed the replay you could see that the receiver basically tripped on his own feet. The ref who threw the flag (at least the one that I saw) would have had the receiver running straight at him (or her, not sure which ref was in that spot) and it definitely could have looked like he was tripped up by the defender at that angle. Definitely the wrong call was made, but based on the angles, I can see how it might have looked like interference.

I'm wondering if the delay in signing Harris is that he's taking the team first attitude and letting Walters take care of signing the rest of the team and then Harris is willing to come in and "take what's left" as it were for his salary.

And they got to skip over all of the usual waiting between trials because they already had the funding that they usually have to wait on. The actual trial steps were complete.

Don't think so... see my message above. Apparently everything is as usual without the red tape and time consuming process of getting money approved. Everything else is following proper protocols. Unfortunately I don't have a source for that, I think I heard it on CBC radio a week or so back.
  24. Sard replied to JCon's post in a topic in General Discussion
I've heard that another contributing factor was that nobody had to stop between stages to try and raise money for the next stage because it had already been allocated, unlike when they are doing other vaccines. All of the trials and stages are taking the usual amount of time without the red tape to slow things down.

This is why I don't get all that excited when I see a decrease over 1 or 2 days...
